Contribuiți la feedbackI went here for dinner with a "local" who has been loyal to this restaurant for many years.Apparently, this restaurant once had a Michelin star way back in the day when the father, now going on 80 and still running the kitchen, was "going for it". The son, the "junior" in Ange D'or, now runs front of house, and the Mom was there, too, conversing with guests. The entire family was very friendly, we traded several stories throughout the evening, and I felt immediately "at home" there. While stories and reviews abound of varying quality levels, as well as the restaurant closing and then re-opening repeatedly and supposedly because they can't sell it to realize their wish of moving to Asia, the dinner we had was also truly enjoyable.Rather than go for a la carte, I put my faith fully into the hands of "junior" to just surprise me with a nice surf & turf-esque combination. The beef tartare I got as a starter was a delight, and that was followed by some of the best-prepared scallops I have every tasted. The main then was one of the national dishes of Korea, which was also very good though I forget the precise name for it.On that evening everything came together well, and on that basis I feel entirely comfortable recommending this restaurant for couples or small-party business dinners...and if you can bring a local who knows the family then that likely is a good thing, too.
We went with family and I had heard how good this place was, on the premise that it was built up as being very nice I was not impressed. The Christmas menu was limited and fairly uninspiring. The duck salad was nice and the lamb was passable. The staff were a little over attentive but since it was quiet they had to do something. I wont rush back at the price they charge for the standard of food they serve.
I have no issues paying lots of money for good food, been to numerous Michelin starred places. This place truly shocked me in terms of value for money. They try to do Euro-Asian fusion cooking, but it just doesn't work out. One of the sauces still gives me the shivers. Decor is extremely outdated, ok if you like cheesy 80s style. Friendly hosts.
