Pizza was decent, but they have the crispy height. Very good. You were happy where you were. It's just that.
I liked the pizza to a boiled French bread that has a soggy crust with cheese pepperoni that feels like it had been thrown up *to* bake. If you take the pizza home and cook it at 375-400F in a toaster oven for 6-10 minutes, the crust will be firm and crispy, the paprika cracks a little, and the cheese tastes right. Do this if you want to upgrade to a 3-star experience, but the family nostalgia forces you to order from here. If you want a really good pizza, you are probably better off the order from somewhere else BEFORE you visit Wellsburg.
I only use a regular basket-style air fryer, so I can usually fit only 4 or 5 slices in the bottom at once. I imagine that a larger air fryer, a toaster oven, or a conventional oven would also work well for DiCarlos. This method is also great for leftover pizza that has been in the fridge; it makes cold pizza taste perfect again!
This is definitely the worst DiCarlos I've ever been to—possibly the worst pizza place overall. I've had frozen pizza that was better than what I encountered here. The service was chaotic; they seemed to prioritize serving their friends over anyone else. If you're not a regular, expect to wait while they tend to people they know first. The sauce was bland, and despite ordering extra cheese, there wasn't nearly enough. The staff was rude if they didn’t recognize you. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money at this establishment. It's a dingy, dirty place with an unpleasant smell. This is specifically about the DiCarlos in Wellsburg—stay away at all costs!
