Albatross Bay Resort - Weipa

While in Weipa we chose Albatross Bay restaurant to celebrate our friends special birthday. We were not disappointed friendly staff and great food in a very relaxed setting. The highlight of the evening was an affogato made by Milo. ❤

I expected better quality for the price and 'being remote' is no excuse . The views are superb with beautiful tropical landscape and view of the beach. A nice ambience and friendly staff. Shame about the food.

Lunch on the deck should have been great, however with only 2 other dinners we should have been treated like kings. Firstly, we had to find some staff to ask if lunch was available. Wait was not too long. Our food came and the prawns in one meal were not cooked properly. The waitress actually noticed this first and took the meal away. It came back again, but this time it had a smell about it. One mouthful was all that was needed to confirm that all was not right. Money was refunded, but that put a real damper on the meal. The chips were good on the other meal!

Dined with a work colleague during the Fishing Classic and pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. We both had steak, my colleague had rump I had eye fillet. He had salad I had vegetables, we both chose the hand cut chips. The chips were hand cut and really very nice. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and not over cooked. The steaks were both very tasty but on the down side slightly under cooked from what was ordered. I noticed on previous reviews that the meals had been smothered with sauce but our meals were far from that to the point of almost wishing I had that small side jug of sauce. The steak however was excellent, juicy, tender but unfortunately just that minute or two under done. Would I dine here again? Absolutely, the food and service was very good.

The Alby is normally the place that Weipa locals take visitors out for dinner when they want to go somewhere nicer. The key feature is the big deck looking out over Albatross Bay and watching a beautiful sunset over he water. That is the private bar / restaurant end and there is also the public bar, tab, beer garden arrangement at the other end. Counter meals at the public bar are much cheaper. It is a big premises and they have occasional live music or other entertainment. It is a popular place to stay for visiting workers and they don't do a bad breakfast.
