I have tried a few of their cupcakes, and they are always so delicious. The flavor is incredible. Also, the presentation of the cupcakes look nice.
Stopped in after lunch next door at blue fish about a month ago. i was hoping to try more of their macaron flavors, but on this day, they only had cookies and cream. i'm not a fan, so i passed. i decided to pick up some cupcakes for my friend and me. i grabbed salted caramel, birthday cake, red velvet, strawberry, and chocolate. the cupcakes were pretty good! i think they are a little pricey when compared to other cupcakes of similar price points. i think their dozen is a dollar more than sprinkles. the frosting was very good on all of the cupcakes. i think i enjoyed the strawberry the most and the salted caramel the least. the cake on the salted caramel was a little dry. the cupcakes were all beautifully decorated and the store is always very clean and inviting. the woman behind the counter was pleasant and very helpful, too. my main complaint is that the macaron selection is so smallllll! i had birthday cake macarons once before and they were pretty good. this shop is the closest place to me with macarons, so i'd give them plenty of business! c'mon guys, more macarons, please!
We stopped by after lunch and got a strawberry cupcake, salted caramel cupcake and 2 chocolate pretzels. The cupcakes were sweet and moist but didn't have much flavor. The strawberry cupcake didn't taste like strawberry at all. The chocolate pretzels were very stale. When we walked in we commented on how cute the place was and how yummy it smelled (all true) but the lady at the counter didn't care. She seemed annoyed and couldn't be bothered to even smile.
I LOVE cupcakes. I've had them in various places all over the country, so I think I know good from bad. These are good. My job brought multiple flavors for a meeting that we were having and this gave me the opportunity to try different flavors. I ultimately only had 2 different kind red velvet and pina colada. I LOVE red velvet. It's probably my favorite cake/cupcake flavor. The cupcake was moist, although a bit too greasy/buttery. There's a fine line with red velvet or chocolate in general, where you don't want it to get dry, but I don't think excessive grease/butter stains are exactly the way to go. I LOVE icing...especially buttercream. I'm the person that you'd ask if I want some cake with my icing, instead of the other way around...so that should give you a picture of how much I love icing. With that said, I'd have to say that the cupcake I had was overflowing with icing. It was buttercream...it was creamy and rich...but it was just too much. Maybe a little too sweet or it was just overloaded on the cupcake...but it's rare for me to throw icing away but I had to in this instance. I felt that if I'd gone any further with it I would have had tummy trouble later and nobody wants that. It was quite some time later when I got a chance to try the pina colada cupcake. I'm not a fan of coconut, so when I saw the shaved coconut on top, I almost passed up the opportunity; however, I decided to give it a try. It was also very moist, but it felt like it wasn't as greasy/buttery as the red velvet. This is probably in line with my theory of adding extra moisture to the chocolate/red velvet flavors to prevent it from drying out. The icing on the pina colada cupcake wasn't nearly as much or as sweet as the red velvet one, so I was actually able to eat most of the entire cupcake with the icing...it started to overwhelm me near the last bite or 2 so they went in the trash. It reminded me of Crumbs bakery. They tend to put about a 1/2 pound of icing on each of their cupcakes too. I was intrigued by the options I tried, so I looked up the bakery and saw they have some REALLY interesting flavors on the menu, so I will probably try at least one more flavor to see if I like it any better. I wish I'd tried more of the flavor options they brought to work.
