The Alfred Free House - Waverley

A brilliant family run pub. The food here is the best pub food we’ve had. Great beers, and the wine is really good too. Sunday lunches are epic and the homemade burgers are absolutely superb.

Popped in for an impromptu visit on the way to Heathrow Airport from Somerset. We were accommodated at short notice and have to say the standard of food and service were absolutely excellent. Would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We went to this restaurant for the first time with a group of six people and were impressed by the large portions of delicious food. Two of us ordered fish dishes and found them to be lovely. Another person tried the homemade fish cakes with salad and was unable to finish the generous portion. The lamb shanks were also a hit with two members of our group, as they were cooked perfectly and had plenty of meat. I opted for the calves liver and bacon, which was well-cooked and tasty. We all felt a bit guilty for not finishing the hearty portions of vegetables. Overall, we would highly recommend this restaurant. The price per person was around £30-40.

I recently went for lunch at this amazing restaurant, which I believe is the best spot for Sunday lunch. I was saddened to hear that the chef is retiring. The price per person was over £100, but the food, service, and atmosphere all deserved a perfect score of 5.
