You've passed several farm house restaurant (ferme auberge) on the way and each time, we were yet there, until we couldn't go higher and there it was, the secluded yet open view from the beautiful Alsace to Germany as far as your eyes can see, a rustic cozy looking auberge promising a refuge from the nippy weather at around 9 degree Celsius early in September. Walked inside, you were greeted by familiar and friendly staff, the family who runs the farm and the restaurant. The set menu was either the bbq style of assorted thin sliced meat of veal, beef, and pork, or a palette fume, which is the house specialty of smoked pork served with potato and preceded by tourte. The former comes with electric hot plate to cook your meat on. Dessert was out of this world good. All in all, every tummy was full and happy, so as our taste buds. What an experience.
We arrived after a long walk and took the 20 euros menu which was wonderful the soup the meat pie the potatoes the meat and the dessert. This place is amazing and is definitely worth a visit if you are in Alsace
First let me start by saying this place is out in the country. So, if you think 15km is 15 minutes think again. More like 40. At some point you leave a paved road onto gravel and dirt. What an amazing experience!!! A family owned business for over 40 years I think. The place is squeaky clean, the cows with their big neck bells might be there to greet you. They too are very clean. LOL Order the typical repas mercaire but you better be hungry. Every course is one better than the other. Leave some room for the desert. Have the sasskass if I remember correctly. It is freshly made Munster cheese from the morning that hasn 't developed the crust that you would see at the market. It is dipped in cream, liquor and sugar. I could go on and on but there are only positive things to say about this place. The drive alone up the Petit Balloon is worth it. You 'd better have all your senses coming back down. My wife compared it to the wild mouse if you are old enough to remember. Last but not least, the price. For 20 Euro, are you kidding me! you can stuff your face, and worth every penny or (centime). Do yourself a favor and go experience this, you will not be disappointed. I am salivating as I am typing this review. LOL
Had a Fantastic rustic lunch after a long walk up the petite Ballon. Wonderful place to stop for a great lunch. Also a vegetarian menu (served with local cheese), which I didn 't expect! Good friendly service. The Roigabrageldis (potatoes) were to die for, served with cheese or meat and salad, simple but yummy! Also the vegetable soup to start was really good. Clean toilets! Really recommend!
