Sushi Gakyu - Washington DC

The service at this place is consistently genuine. The staff is friendly and hardworking. The sushi is great. We often enjoy the chirashi because of the preparation and melt-in-your-mouth sashimi.

Maybe we came too late in the evening or had too high expectations for this place. While each piece generally for the Edo Nigiri and Gakyu Assorted Sushi were pretty good, the toro seemed to have a ligament and was far from the clean butter like softness of great toro. We would like to give this place a second chance but are hesitant. We hear it's better in January and February

Nice place, I'd dine in next time. I did think it was expensive for what we received and I didn't think their menu was super unique. Overall I enjoyed the food.

Really enjoyed the food here, especially the chefs special spicy tuna which had fresh jalapenos. Only been there once, but the service was a touch slow even though the restaurant was only half full. We'll definitely go back, we'll just be a little bit more diligent about getting faster service!

Great food. Clean restaurant. Attentive, friendly, and helpful staff. The Aburi Five (chef's choice seared sushi) was amazing. Chef's Langoustine Lobster roll had crunchy fried garlic on top that accentuated the flavors very well.
