Mavericks Steak Cocktails - Waite Park

The bar and restaurant was conveniently connected to my co-worker's hotel, so while we were traveling from out of state for work, we decided to have dinner there. The wine options at the bar are average, but the happy hour specials are reasonably priced if you choose wisely. The food was also average; the salmon was decent, but I expected more, and the cheesy mashed potatoes were definitely not the right choice—I'm usually a big fan of potatoes. I wish I had ordered something else. On a positive note, some of the tequila cocktails we tried were well-crafted. The service was excellent; both the bartender and our server were very friendly, but unfortunately, I can’t remember their names.

The service was slow, and unfortunately, it seemed to take even longer. When the bartender was unsure how to make a Whisky Old Fashioned, the manager instructed her to add club soda, which was incorrect. It's surprising, especially since it's listed on their special drink menu. I realize I should have addressed the issue in person instead of complaining online, but I couldn't get anyone's attention to ask for a fix. I didn't order food this time, but I've heard it’s good.

We started with a “Minnesota roll,” which was an egg roll stuffed with walleye. Unfortunately, the walleye had a very strong fishy taste. Soon after, we received our main dishes. My girlfriend ordered “the Maverick steak,” while I opted for the blackened Maverick fettuccine. While her steak was cooked to her preference, it was one of the toughest steaks I’ve ever encountered. She also had chicken noodle soup, but it was puzzling because there were no noodles in it at all. As for my fettuccine, it was quite bland and lacked flavor. The steak in the dish was overwhelmed by the char; I understand it's called "blackened," but there’s a fine line between charred and burnt. Despite the food's appealing presentation, we found the taste and quality to be highly disappointing. I don't think I'll return, and I wouldn't recommend it either. As a “steak house,” my expectations for a well-cooked steak were much higher.

My wife and I had one of their steaks and was the best ones we've had in a long time!!!!

The food was good, and the staff attentive.I'm not a fan of the high ceiling, loud atmosphere. It was a Monday, so not particularly busy, but even then it was loud.
