Had a fabulous evening at this family run restaurant. Food was authentic and home cooked. Family is genuine and friendly. Casual and cozy. Popular with the locals and tourists alike. Happy we found this gem.
For our first night in Viseu we aimed to seek out a restaurant steeped in old fashioned Portugese family fare, and O Hilario didn't disappoint. Don't expect any modern flourishes on the menu, be ready for plenty of hearty fish or meat dishes with piles of pulses or lashings of rice and chips (on the same plate) but for us it was an ideal scene setter for a four centre tour over three weeks friendly service, bargain prices, uncomplicated drinks list, and a set up that probably hasn't changed in decades.
