Bolaget - Visby

Great location on the top of Stortorget in Visby. They have a large outdoor seating area which is great during summer. They played some funky house music. Staff was quick to clear tables and provided friendly service. Did only have drinks so can't comment on the food

Great food and service. I enjoyed my time here: very polite and warm personnel, short and well-listed menu, also including wine and beer recommendations. There is a dish for every taste, also for vegans and people with allergies. We took beef tartar and carrot salad, both we got in 5 mins and they were tasty and I could feel the chef's soul in the carrot salad as the combination of tastes were perfect. The tartar was juicy and fresh, even though I usually don't like pre-mixed versions, this one was well-balanced. They serve it with french fries, which I am not a big fan of, though in this case the home-made creamy mayo in the tartar made it a good combination.

I visited this restaurant 5 years ago and thought it was excellent. So when the opportunity arose to go back, I didn't hesitate to take my colleagues there. However, upon arriving, I found the restaurant to be nearly empty and the waiter seemed to have a careless attitude towards us. It took a long time to place our order and even longer to receive the bill, despite the lack of customers. The waiter was inattentive and seemed to be in a rush, even missing some people's orders. When reminded, he responded rudely. Although the food was good, the menu had changed and was less interesting than before. Some items were not listed but were available, as we saw other tables receiving food that was not on the menu. Overall, it was not the same experience I remembered. I would not return unless there are signs of improvement.

So, this place, situated in charming Visby, really made it. Service was beyond expected. Such nice and accommodating staff maitre-d. Food was excellent, but the staff really made the difference. Just one of many things, they changed music, after request from us, to better suit the ambiance. Well worth the visit.

The location of the restaurant is excellent, but there is room for improvement in terms of logistics. It took 2 hours to receive our food, and the waiters seemed unaware of our needs, which is a departure from the standard Bolaget used to uphold. Considering the high prices, such as 325 SEK for cod, the quality of the dish did not meet expectations. The dish had too much cucumber and the potatoes were overly soft. I would recommend Bolaget for enjoying a beer outdoors on a sunny afternoon, but for a meal, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
