Plaza Azteca - Virginia Beach

My family loves this place. This is our go to Mexican Resturant and they never fail to give us a great experience. They’re vegan menu has grown a lot these past couple months and all the food is great! I highly recommend the vegan bowl, I couldn’t even tell that the vegan meat was fake! I had to double check with the waiter!

I have unfortunately had to eat here a few times and every time I try to give them a pass they manage to flush it down the toilet. I 've ordered the vegan bowl previously and one time they served it to me with the normal rice they cook in chicken broth. Waiter had no idea why I was upset. Had another time where I ordered vegetable fajitas and they smelled like butter. Waiter confirmed the vegetables were cooked in butter. Went here tonight and ordered a side of black beans and a side of WHITE RICE I was very specific about this . Figured I 'd make my own vegan bowl. Guy comes out with black beans covered in cheese ???? And a plate of greasy white rice with overcooked vegetables in it? I have no idea if the rice was vegan, so I just decided not to eat it. They gave me a new plate of black beans but the taste was off.... Almost like it was cooked with meat or something. Totally could have been my imagination but I couldn 't eat more than a bite. Ended up wasting my entire dinner. Didn 't even have the energy to inquire further and neither did the waiter apparently. Will never order here again and if you 're vegan, and this is important to you, I wouldn 't either. This is an example of a place that has a vegan menu but doesn 't seem to understand what vegan is/means.

If you 're a vegan please don 't bother with this place. This is why I try to eat at vegan restaurants if at all possible, but I ended up here with family. Got the vegetarian enchiladas and made one simple substitution--vegan cheese instead of regular cheese. When I got the food it was clear that the pre-made cheese enchilada was opened up, the melted cheese (which is a completely different texture from the crumbled up raw tofu they called vegan cheese lol) was 95% scraped off and replaced with the tofu junk. Ridiculous, honestly. It makes perfect sense that a restaurant would pre-make popular items, and that 's fine, but when there 's a substitution, you make that [censored] fresh. If that 's how they treat their vegan customers they should do us all a favor and stop offering vegan stuff...if it isn 't actually going to be vegan. [censored] this place.

Food was good but not the best vegan Mexican food I’ve ever had. Staff was friendly and fun though!
