James Bay Tea Room And - Victoria

This dining experience was average at best and honesty a letdown. The French toast was tasty and not a bad value but that's where the positive reviews end. The omelette was overpriced and bland, and the server seemed intent on making unsolicited suggestions during my order (and rushing me). The service was friendly enough but somewhat rushed and detached, and for $3.00 cup of diner coffee I expect a bit more attention for a refill or two.But the upside is that I know we don't have to go back!

We came here with several families for a total of 15 and they served us quickly and the food was amazing. The scones were so giant we thought the kids could share them but they were so incredible all the kids were fighting over who had more so we had to order more. There were pictures of English royalties which added to the ambiance. It is off the beaten path but a great place for a cup of tea and great food. My teenage boys had steak sandwiches which were super filling.

Lovely little place hiding in the city of Victoria. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The tea was delicious - in a big pot with tea cosy. The decor is definitively Royalist! The afternoon teas looked amazing, but we only had the scones and jam. Unfortunately on the day we went they were fresh out of clotted cream! - Hope this is rectified soon! Clean facilities. A very pleasant way to spend a hour after a long walk.

In a place like Victoria, named after England's long-serving queen (64 years, since surpassed by the current queen, Elizabeth (65 years and still chugging along), it should be no surprise to bump into a restaurant with a decidedly British flavor. But we found this one, well off the beaten path. The beaten path in this city seems to be the Empress Hotel, the legislative assembly, and the inner harbor. First the food: quite acceptable, thank you.The server: first-timer Hannah did a good job and learns quickly. She seemed to appreciate my teaching that older people should not be addressed as "guys" and, how to handle a glass so her fingers, however clean they may be, do not touch the rim.The place: commemorative royalty-related plates on the wall, photos and paintings of royalty (current and so old we don't know who they are). Strange for me to be reading the captions when I have no time or interest in anything monarchial. What an expensive and useless bunch in any culture, but it's still a free country, so stifle, Grimshaw!.

I visited the James Bay Tea Room and restaurant for the first time last week and was blown away by the prompt service and delicious breakfast. The bangers were just how I like them! the eggs were perfectly cooked. I've never enjoyed a scone as much as I did theirs! So soft and flaky! The staff were courteous and quick. the experience left me wanting more! I wish breakfast every morning could be that good!
