For my main course, I had some of the best fish I've ever tasted. To top it all off, the raspberry soufflé was simply incredible.
Our first visit to this charming little French restaurant, nestled in a courtyard in downtown Vero, was simply wonderful and indulgent. I enjoyed the soft-shell crab, which were the best I've ever had! My husband ordered the salmon, and it was so tender it practically melted in his mouth. The atmosphere is very European and welcoming, the music is delightful, and the service is impeccable. You're sure to adore this delightful hidden gem!
"The proof is in the pudding." – F. Deford Vero Beach is known for a variety of attractions, including Historic Dodgertown, McKee Botanical Gardens, and an emerging fine dining scene. While it may not yet be renowned for the latter, establishments like Di Mare, Fire Wine, and Baci Trattoria are certainly gaining recognition—and Bistro Fourchette is absolutely one of them. Opened in 2015, this relatively new restaurant has made a strong impression from the start. The culinary magic at Bistro Fourchette comes from Chef Stéphane Becht, while his delightful wife, Loretta, welcomes patrons with warmth and charm at the door. Loretta's amiability sets a pleasant tone for the dining experience. Seating at the restaurant is managed based on demand, and while I initially requested to sit in the back, Loretta gently informed me that section was closed. However, she quickly arranged for us to have a table in the charming back room, where she reviewed the specials for the day. Before long, a server brought us fresh bread and water. In any dining establishment, the first interaction with the staff sets the tone, and this one was particularly exceptional. The French bread was freshly baked on-site, delivering a crusty, flaky loaf that filled the air with a warm aroma—clearly crafted with care. Loretta returned to check on our readiness to order, and I selected Escargot 'Bourguignon,' Steak Tartare, the daily special of Veal Bone Marrow, and Filet de Truite (trout). As the restaurant began to fill up, our server returned with a tray carrying our beautifully presented dishes. The Escargot was prepared traditionally and exceptionally well, boasting a sublime garlic butter and herbed flavor, with a touch of sweet from the Cognac. The Steak Tartare was an intriguing twist on the classic dish, cubed, topped with fresh greens, and adorned with an edible flower—truly a feast for both the eyes and the palate. While the beef tenderloin was tender and fresh, I found it to be just a touch under-seasoned. The accompanying bread, yet again, was a delightful interpretation of this beloved staple. Moving on to our main courses, one stand-out was the Veal Bone Marrow. The bone was beautifully split, lightly seasoned, and roasted to perfection. Paired with more of that heavenly bread, this dish was savory, creamy, and irresistibly smooth—I dare anyone to find fault with it! Even the fussiest eaters would enjoy it. Lastly, we savored the Filet de Truite. The farm-fresh trout was perfectly seared and complemented by a luscious lemon chive Beurre Blanc, the best I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. The green beans tasted as if they had just been harvested from a garden, and the fingerling potatoes were an exquisite addition. I must take a moment to commend Chef Stéphane. His training in France at Michelin-starred restaurants, including Auberge de l'Ill in Alsace, and Taillevent and Lucas Carton in Paris, truly reflects in the quality of the dishes. Have been waiting to try this restaurant for a while. Was not disappointed! The food was hot, fresh, well presented and delicious. The staff was attentive and professional. Highly recommend!!
