We were travelling en route to Malaucene and happened across the restaurant and stopped for lunch. We didn't want an aperitif, nor wine (due to driving) so the host immediately brought over a caraffe of water. The food was delicious I had a vegetable pasta while my partner had a lasagne, followed by raspberry panacotta and creme brulee! We've already recommended it to friends who travel down to Provence on a regular basis
The food was absolutely super, service also good. The wine a bit expensive but delicious. Will definitely go back.
We were just touring up through the Gorge de St. May do look out for the vultures circling gracefully high above and decided to stop for lunch at this quiet looking hostelry quite clear that there is NO bar here, just restaurant custom. The waitress (she and her husband run the place jointly) was keen to practise her English, so we had a comprehensive explanation of the delicious goodies on offer, from the chalkboard she placed in front of us. I had an aubergine dish which was quite delicious of course, while my wife had lasagne, with that terrific twist of flavour that so many dishes get in this part of the world. From being the only diners on the terrace outside, we were soon joined by several older couples, apparently locals, while a party of 9 Dutch cyclists soon arrived, so the only place for newcomers was inside, out of the sunshine. I was pleased for the owners, as both clearly work hard, and the rewards are tangible. Probably worth booking to get a table outside.
L'Escargot Rouge was a very pleasant surpise and possibly the best meal we had in our 2 week stay in the Nyons area. The fresh pasta dishes we tried were delicious and very good value. Very friendly and attentive service. Highly recommended
