Our dinner this week at Ristorante San Marco was disappointing. We had eaten there several times before the pandemic, and had enjoyed it very much. Now, however, the prices have increased substantially, and the chicken breast that both my wife and I ordered was overcooked and very dry,
We sat outside on a lovely evening. Food was very good but we did think it was pricey. I know costs have gone up everywhere and we will go back to San Marco again
It 's been a long time since I 've had to write a bad review for a bad meal. The only good thing about the meal was the Pinot Grigio wine. We both had Caesar salads. But they weren 't. The one half tsp. of dressing on mine was a very mild sour cream. They did not dress the lettuce in the dressing. Just a plop under the cheese. OMG. No anchovies, lemon, garlic or even olive oil. For real skip it. My entree was Chicken Scallopine overcooked and chewy with a limp thin lemon slice. I had to ask for pasta with it, otherwise I would have gotten the same cold potatoes and under cooked vegetables my husband got with his dry salmon filet. And then we ordered dessert. So sad. It was a very special day, 24 years since we first met. We ordered a hazelnut chocolate mousse. What came was for the most part inedible. It was not a mousse, not chocolate and definitely old. They took some white mousse like substance, covered it with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and stuck three small hazelnut biscotti cookies in it. Since I had ate very little of my salad, three bites of my entree and some pasta and one bite of dessert I was pretty hungry so I finished their bread. Not bad, not good, it was a very rustic loaf of heavy texture. Maybe they were trying to be creative but it failed. So did the pot of wet tasteless mushroom pate to spread on the bread. At least there was olive oil, and you could put the big chunks of raw garlic to the side to get some for your bread. The service staff hustled serving both inside and outside, so apparently no one thought of sections.... Our server Emma was outstanding. She listened to my explanation of what a real Caesar salad was and why theirs was not even close. Emma recognized that I was unhappy with my entree and offered something else again. My husband took my entree and his uncooked veges home for a reheat. She did take the salad and dessert off our bill. We will never go back, same for the table next to us. They should hire trained chefs.
This has been my favorite Venice restaurant. The service was outstanding as it always has been. The food , however, was not what I have experienced in the past. The calamari was overcooked and had little taste. It was not saved by the bland sauce. My salmon was tasty but sadly lacking the lemon and spinach the menu described. The vegetables, broccoli and carrots were perfectly cooked , fresh and crispy but I wanted spinach! I know businesses are stressed right now and will certainly try again but was disappointed!
