If you live in Vancouver, Washington and are craving authentic Japanese ramen, look no further than Hap Ramen Express. The food is delicious and kind to my stomach. My go-to is the Tokyo Shoyu. I also recommend Goma Dango as an appetizer.
Do you want Ramen? Are you in Vancouver? Then let's. Do. HAP Ramen! My plus one and I came to HAP Ramen for the first time on a Sunday Friday afternoon. Well, we came here after ordering online through HAP's website. Hours and days are weird so check ahead. Check out the Yelp photo I took of the outside HAP defines hole in the wall! Parking was a little bit tight. This place is super weird location I could've easily missed it. I've been next to here several times but I've never ever considered there being food places within the shopping center. When you come to the front door there's a tiny doorbell on the right hand side. A super small note asks you to ring the bell. I missed it and was going to call luckily my plus one found it. We rang the bell and were greeted by a very nice person who took our name and said that they would be back with our order we could wait in the car. We brought our car around front and awaited our food. Maybe 2mins later they came out and delivered the food to our car what service! Our first time at HAP Ramen had me going for what Yelp called the two best things on the menu. My plus one had the TanTan noodles with pork loin and the garlic broth, and I had the Tonkatsu Ramen with char Siu pork and spicy broth. Other meat options including two pieces of shrimp, teriyaki chicken, tofu, or shredded chicken (depending on the bowl). TanTan noodles with pork loin and the garlic broth: PACKED BOWL! What a great meal it's two meals easily. The body of this broth is so savory it would cure hantavirus (this is not a medical endorsement, is joke plz). The spiciness is a nice kick but not overpowering. The veggies (baby spinach, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, corn, and green onions) were all superbly fresh. The pork loin was clearly made in house, like the broth, and had some charred bits while also being succulent. Egg was poached perfectly and had a soft set Jello feel. Tonkatsu Ramen with char Siu pork and spicy broth: Another packed bowl! Full disclosure, my broth wasn't as spicy as my partners broth even though I ordered spicy broth. Am I sad about it? Maybe. Am I coming back to get more broth? LIKE A BROTH MOTH TO THE HAP FLAME, BAY BEE. Broth was the show stopper. I walked around the kitchen making noises like I was on a kitchen show. Y'all lucky Yelp ain't taking video reviews, I was having the time of my life. The char siu pork was so tender it's like pulled Chinese pork. You could swap the name and never miss a beat! My egg was also perfectly cooked. My veggies were FRESH (mushrooms, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, corn, green onion). This place nails it on the meat, egg, and above all else BROTH. It's like if you had a cookout with your buddies. Hanna really, really knows how to cook tender meat and bring the A game. Angus picked the freshest veggies for the shindig. Pat's been cooking these broths all day. Assemble the HAP team like an old Captain Planet reunion and have the best damn ramen since... someone loved you enough to make you homemade ramen. HAPs that place.
I anticipated it to be better than what it was. When I ordered it I was supposed to get a text back saying that it was ready, I never did. So even after they were closed I had to call them to ask if my order was ready and by the time I got home my order was already cold. Very disappointed
Love this place, it does not pretend to be anything more than it is. Ramen was good, chicken was good, wish they had Takoyaki though. Reasonably priced as well. Takeout only.
