I ordered a turkey sandwich with top quality Boars Head meat and the owner/chef asked me if I wanted his homemade turkey breast he made that morning instead. Homemade turkey! I only have homemade turkey once a year on Thanksgiving so this was an amazing treat. The turkey breast was served on an extremely fresh multi grain roll. What could have been a boring turkey sandwich anywhere else, was a delicious filling meal. The decor inside the deli is very nice. There is even a sink for customers to wash their hands, which is very convenient for the many bicyclists that may come to the deli. I would be remiss if I did not mention all the homemade desserts, brownies, cookies, and cakes. Outside, there are picnic tables with umbrellas to sit at and enjoy a great meal. I plan on frequenting this awesome deli!
Every now and then you find an unexpected spot that makes you understand why simplicity and freshness are the real keys to success. I've been driving past this location for months waiting for it to open just to see what it was really going to be. Finally yesterday I walked in to a new gourmet deli, (and deli is really not doing it justice), with an old country feel and a serious home cooked flavor. Enter the front door and the aroma of fresh, house cured, crispy bacon permeated the air. Inside for maybe 30 seconds I was presented with a sample fresh out of the oven. Now if you like bacon, and I mean real bacon, fresh, never frozen or packed in plastic sitting on a shelf for a week, get your a here and try some. Turns out this was just the tip of the iceberg. House cured salmon. Not dry, heavily smoked, borderline jerky salmon. This was lightly smokey, cured just long enough to be cooked, the most moist and perfectly seasoned cure I've had... Anywhere. I love lox on a bagel, cream cheese, little onion, but this is so fresh and so moist that putting cream cheese on it seemed like the wrong thing to do. I just ate it straight off the paper and it never made it out the door. In the case the selection included, eggplant, chicken, various salads, homemade FULL sour pickles,(hammered down one also and it was like a sour patch cucumber AWESOME), fresh cookies, etc. it's ALL truly made in house. Not only will I be back religiously, but I'll be giving them my holiday catering order this year as well. The owner seemed like a serious foodie. The kind of guy that has his own personal stash of awesome food that's not on the menu but he might share with his good customers. I'll become one and let you know...
Right next to Rockland Lake on 9w is a gourmet deli that exceeded little expectation. Aimed at local valley cottage residents and 9w cyclist comes this charming deli equipped with bike racks, free air pump and outside benches. The food is top notch for what we had. My wife had the bacon onion quiche which was really good while I had a standard bacon egg and cheese sandwich which was anything but standard. The egg was over easy so the sandwich oozed with goodness HOME CURED bacon which surprised me on how fresh bacon should taste and my choice of cheeses. I believe the chef even put a bit of buffalo sauce on it because the taste of this sandwich made my top ten. Very good establish, very professional and everyone who worked there was really nice. Two of the chefs are CIA graduates.
