Stayed three nights in one of the new rooms. Really nice, clean and comfortable. The staff we're all very nice and accommodating. Good location. Highly recommend.
I am devastated to learn that the Totem Inn and Restaurant will not be rebuilding the Restaurant, following the tragic fire. A moment of silence, in memory of such a venerable institution. May she RIP. (Wipes tears) I was horrified when we arrived in Valdez last August, to see, or more correctly, not see, the Restaurant. We spent an inordinate amount of time here, gorging our faces, each year when we went down for the Silver Salmon run. Alas, not this August. Their Totem Benedict was a go-to for me. A biscuit, bacon, perfectly poached egg, sunshiny bejewelled yolk, glistening, pouring forth, coating the whole, as you cut into it. And napped with a moreish sausage gravy, containing nuggets of beautiful sausage. And then if that were not enough sheer gourmanderie on a plate, it was accompanied by (heavy breathing here) home fries. Golden brown, caramelized, I just wanted to pick them up with my hands and inhale them. But we must act like a lady, no? One time, I was fishing from the ferry dock, on a roll, I obviously had the lucky spot, as I'd caught 4 silvers, practically one after another, and refused to relinquish my place, as people were giving me side-eye. So. Blake went round to the Totem, and got Benedict to go. I do not think I have ever been happier, than sitting with my bobber on the water, and scarfing down a Totem Benedict. Sweet memories. Their skillets were kick ass too, really set you up for a long day fishing, for which a hearty breakfast is highly beneficial. And this is the place I first tried apple butter on toast. Yum yum. And their death by chocolate cake, was ecactly as described. So how on earth I'm going to cope without you, Totem Restaurant, is anybody's guess. No other place in town came close. A devoted fan.
We ate here on my first night after moving to Valdez. The next month it had a fire and has been closed ever since. Pretty sad about that, but word on the street is that they're building a new hotel... WITH AN INDOOR POOL! I hope they bring the restaurant back too, we need all the options we can get here in Valdez.
Really really nice hotel, it's a little expensive but when you're in Alaska during tourist season i guess that's expected. We loved it, we got a family suite and it was nice, comfortable and pleasant. It was about $270 for one night, with 2 rooms and a living room but extremely clean, hot water and very good service
