Aveiro lives on tourism. While this restaurant is happy to serve tourists, and some of the staff have a bit of English and French, it's mainly about serving locals. What they serve is typical, ordinary Portuguese fare in a traditional atmosphere at a price which is reasonable for Aveiro. It's nothing special, but it's good, typical Portuguese food. The portions are large (as is typical in Portugal). The food is slightly salty for a foreigner's pallet (ditto). The house wine is only slightly overpriced (again, this is a tourist town). The interior is traditional, in an honest sort of way it's simply been around for quite a while. It's not new made to look old. My meal of grilled sardines (with boiled potato and green salad), soup to start, and a cheese to have with the remainder of the wine was, well, ordinary. I've had a lot better; however, in a cheap restaurant in less tourist locations this is pretty much what you get for a modestly priced meal. But here it costs a bit more.
