Contribuiți la feedbackI have to say, my experience at this BBQ joint hasn’t improved since my last visit—if anything, it was a bit worse. My dad and I decided to give it another go, but I still walked away feeling just "meh." During my previous visit, the owner mentioned that their smoker was broken, but I was hoping for a better outcome this time around. Unfortunately, the pork tasted boiled, the brisket seemed baked, and while the ribs were decent, they were overcooked to the point of falling off the bone—something I consider a bit lazy in the BBQ world. We ordered the three-meat platter with ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, along with sides of beans and mac and cheese. Let’s dive into the details. The ribs were flavorful but definitely overdone. Curiously, they were also served cold along with the other meats, despite our early arrival. I understand that BBQ is usually served low and slow, but it felt like we were served yesterday’s leftovers. The pulled pork was the standout disappointment—it had absolutely no smoke flavor and tasted bland, as if I was eating an unseasoned piece of meat. It’s clear that this recipe needs a complete overhaul. On a more positive note, the brisket was decent. It was a bit too salty, and it lacked that sought-after smoke ring, but it was tender and edible with a touch of BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese, which I enjoyed during my last visit, didn’t impress me this time. It was just okay—an upgrade from Kraft but still lacking that gooey, delicious quality I expected. In fact, it was rather dry. As for the baked beans, they reminded me too much of Van Camp’s canned variety, just with added bits of pulled meat. They were okay but nothing to write home about. Overall, I can only give this place two stars. The food feels a bit overpriced and lacks the necessary flair. The sauces are great as I remember, but the BBQ itself really needs improvement. The seasoning was weak or completely missing, and there was hardly any smoke flavor in the meats. As I mentioned in my earlier review, I shouldn’t have to rely on sauce to make mediocre BBQ taste better. I apologize if my review comes off as harsh, but my intention is to provide constructive criticism. I genuinely want our local businesses to succeed.
Details: We rented the upstairs area of the restaurant for our wedding reception. The owner assured us that the entire upstairs would be exclusively for us and our guests, which was fantastic because it included a bar, a sound system, and a small dance area by the window. We sampled the food—it was mediocre, not terrible—and agreed on a price, signing the contract with the expectation that everything was set. We called a few days before to confirm, and everything seemed fine. On the day of the wedding, my husband and I arrived for the reception after taking family photos. As we went upstairs, the first thing we noticed was that there were regular non-customers sitting at tables directly on the dance floor. Other non-guests were at the bar, and our group was cramped together in the back half of the upstairs area. Naturally, we assumed there had been a mistake. However, it turned out that the owner had simply decided to disregard the rental agreement, thinking he could accommodate more customers on a busy night. When my husband asked to speak to the management, we were told the owner was unavailable but would come up to speak with us soon. After repeatedly raising our concerns with the staff, we finally spoke with the head chef, who informed us there was nothing he could do—oh, and by the way, the owner had already left for the day and wasn’t answering his phone. To make matters worse, the food was cold, and the bartender was unable to differentiate between our guests and non-guests, resulting in us being overcharged on the bar bill. The owner never answered our calls or attempted to make amends, and I ended up missing out on my much-anticipated father-daughter dance, which I had dreamed of since childhood.
Decided to try for the first time after driving past it nearly everyday. The last time we tried was during a power outage so we were really looking forward to it. We went in for an early dinner on a Wednesday and were the only guests in the place which was actually really nice. The service was quick and attentive. Our server gave us all kinds of suggestions and was honest about what she liked and didn't like on the menu which was helpful. We started off with some Roasted Brussel Sprouts with bacon and caramelized onions. Delicious flavor! We also had a few drinks which were very fairly priced. We split the three meat Que platter with brisket, pulled chicken, and chicken wings. It came with baked beans, fries, McClures spicy pickles and Texas toast. The pulled chicken was a little dry and not my favorite. That being said the chicken wings were AMAZING! Whatever the rub on the outside was simply delicious. The brisket was nice and tender. Had a nice peppery crust to it also. They give you about 6 different types of BBQ sauce to use during your meal. The Motor City was by far the best. Gin Zing Maple Bourbon being a close second and third. The Texas Toast was disappointing. No flavor at all really. All in all a good experience. It's close to home and worth additional visits. Not the greatest price value for the food, but not terrible. I want to visit again during industry nights for half off drinks!
Overall, service was good, veggies looked fresh, sauces were all above average, but the meats and their preparation were subpar. Maybe a good spot to grab a drink but I would avoid their smoked products. If you know how to smoke you're better off staying at home Had driven by this place dozens of times and it always looks like a great place to grab some lunch or dinner. Finally took the plunge in 6 Jan 2018 and was pretty disappointed. It would appear that their pit master was out on my visit as the meat had very little to no rub or smoky flavor. What it did have was grease and copious amounts of fat in the brisket and pulled pork. I completely understand that fat is useful when properly smoked, this fat wasn't. It tasted like grease and old fat. I didn't even try the ribs I ordered because I 100% lost interest based on their lack of smoke. The corn chips were also deep fired which added to the overly fatty brisket. Jalapeños were fresh and good but way too thick at 1/2 . I hope they can up their meat selection and preparation because this place has potential, but they need to focus on the meat and not the bbq sauces.
Its a great location and great look-and-feel on the first level. They have a small but solid draft selection and its always 100% Michigan beer. The wait staff were always friendly and attentive in my past experiences. This time much more standoffish. The food overall, i 've always gotten the Mac 'N Cheese with delicious smoked meats. For the past few years its been nothing but consistent awesomeness. This past time the Mac N Cheese was a let down. The cheese sauce seemed watered down. The meat wasnt as good. Their bbq sauces are always tasty. But overall I left with disappointment. I hope the quality can pick back up again.
