Stango Cuisine - Urbana

I can't believe just how good this place is! I've lived in the area for years and just tried it for the first time. It's probably one of the most underrated restaurants in the entire Urbana-Champaign area. As someone from Brazil, I can say that the flavors reminded me a bit of home. I had the oxtail with beans and rice, along with a side of fried plantains, beef cakes, ginger tea, and beignets. Everything was on point—full of flavor and freshness. If you haven't tried Sambiqi cuisine before and you enjoy Mexican or generally Latin American flavors, this will definitely satisfy your cravings. If you're still unsure about going, keep in mind that this is the ONLY Sambiqi restaurant in North America, so don't miss out on a unique experience that few have had the pleasure of enjoying!

I visit this restaurant as often as I can! If you haven't had sub-Saharan African cuisine before, this is a fantastic place to begin. The Nshima here is a staple in the region—it's a corn-based starch that pairs wonderfully with meat dishes. Their freshly squeezed ginger drink is authentic and refreshing, and you can choose to have their spicy sauce served on the side or mixed into your meal, depending on your preference. Everything is delicious!

I'm very happy to see them expanding their menu since I first came here. Their staff is always friendly and happy to explain their authentic dishes. Try the ginger juice!

Visited for during restaurant week and it was amazing! I loved the dishes I had. The sweet potatoes were delicious and they had some of the best plantains I’ve had in the US. The service is good and I will keep coming back.

Five stars! This food truly makes your soul happy. It's warm, delicious, and full of character. Every dish is cooked to perfection, with love and care evident in every ingredient. If you haven't been here yet and you're in the area, you absolutely must give it a try! The plantains, beef, Nshima—everything is excellent. You can't go wrong!
