Contribuiți la feedbackThis restaurant is beside the Unionville Planning Mill in Unionville, Ontario. We had dinner at Next Door last night before the Unionville Thursday night Music Fest. The food was terrible.I ordered The Nashville fried chicken. It was terrible. 2 pieces of chicken fried sitting on some creamed corn and kale. This place needs to get some side dishes. Has anyone heard the word salad or fries? The choices are terrible. The menu limited both in the appetizers and the main choices. My bf had the spaghetti squash main. He ate it because he was hungry but I'd pass that one up as well. The menu has weird choices. Hard to make a decision on what u want to order. It's expensive. My fried chicken which was 2 pieces sitting an a bit of creamed corn and kale was 18.50. The wine list is average.I'd give this place a nod on the way by.
Had lunch here on a busy Unionville Saturday but there were only a few other customers. All the food was great. Chicken BLT, sweet potato fries and entree salad were all fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is open and inviting. The place was clean and the service attentive. A good choice for a bite or a beer or better yet, both.
This was my second time dining at the Mill. My first time was with friends a few years back and I remember it being good. Went back with family visiting from out of town recently and I was rather disappointed, even embarassed to have been the one to suggest the venue. Upon arrival, on a hot day, we asked for indoor seating. We were told 'just to let you know the patio is busy so there may be a longer wait time for food'. We are a patient and understanding group, so we proceeded. We had ordered the cheese board, a salad, mussels and two pizzas. Three of the items we asked for were not available (this was about noon on a Sunday). After half an hour (literally) the mussels arrived. 10 minutes later (40 minutes from ordering) the first pizza arrived. After reminding the waitress about our garden salad, it made its way to our table a few minutes later. After another 5 or so minutes, the second pizza arrived. Over an hour after ordering and after two follow ups, the (tiny) cheese board finally arrived. My guests were really hungry so I didn't want to cancel anything, and at the same time we didn't want to add anything in fear that it would take too long again. The taste of the food was also mediocre at best. The pace of the food arrivals made the meal stretch out and it felt like we were nibbling on snacks as opposed to eating a meal. The waitress told us she was the only one working the floor. Truth be told, the patio was not packed (maybe 4 to 5 tables of 3 to 4 people). It really felt unacceptable for a cheese board appetizer to show up last and over one hour after being ordered. There was also no real acknowledgement for the unacceptable wait time for food, regardless if we were given a heads up. 35 minutes would have been my expectation under 'busy' circumstances. There is no excuse for the time we waited. It's a beautiful spot in the cutest little historical community. It's unfortunate that better food and better service are not available.
Located at the base of Main Street Unionville, this site seems to have been cursed, burning three at least owners and 4 formats in the past decade. It should be a great restaurant. The location is very good. They have a nice patio, overlooking the “mill pond”, although it really needed the cleaning it recently received as it had silted in and become malodorous, even the ducks were shunning it. But it is not a good restaurant. It is just mediocre. The food is ok. Nothing is special. The service is ok but you can get ignored for extended periods on the patio. That’s why it is never busy even when the other local restaurants are packed. OK simply isn’t good enough. If you just want a beer (or two) and a snack, and can get a seat on the patio (now that the pond has been cleaned up) it is actually quite enjoyable. Try their “nachos”. Instead of tortilla chips, they use house made potato chips, which is an interesting change. It is quite heavy so plan on sharing.
Buckle up everyone...this is going to be a bumpy review! We go to Unionville a number of times a year and were waiting excitedly for the construction on this place to be done. Every time we went we would stick our faces to the window to see how close they were to finishing the construction.Since the weather was so nice we decided to sit outside. But the interiors are beautiful with the chandeliers and frames on the wall. Very well and artistically designed. The location is nice...right by the water with the fountain spewing delightfully, but that is the ONLY good thing I can say about this restaurant. There were so many things wrong that I think it's best to list them in point form otherwise this will be a large essay.1. The sign said "Please wait to be seated". The waitress (dressed from head to toe in tight black clothing), came over and said "2? Sit anywhere and I will bring you menus." That is NOT being seated...that is seating yourselves. That should have been the first clue and we should have left.2. The table was very dirty. Any waitress should make sure the table is clean before she puts the menus down. It was so dirty that I could/would not lean my arms on it. I asked the waitress to wipe the table. She came fairly quickly to do so, but it was like she had never wiped a table before. I had to show where to wipe and then it still wasn't done properly.3. We ordered a glass of wine and a cider. She went to get them and then came back to tell us that they didn't have either.4. We ordered a different wine and cider. She went to get them and came back to tell us that they didn't have that cider but they just got the white wine I had ordered originally. I said I would have that.(this would have been a good place to go...not having 3 different drinks that are on the menu? unheard of)5. She brought my white and I quickly realized that when she said they just got it in, she literally meant that. It was room temperature! I mentioned it to her and she was apologetic, but they didn't have any that were cold. She asked me if I wanted ICE in it!!! I am not a big wine snob, but that is RIDICULOUS!6. We foolishly stayed and ordered the cured meat & cheese platter. It came, so poorly presented that I didn't know what I was eating. I had to dig and move things to see what was there. 7. She didn't bring us side plates to eat our food on. WHAT KIND OF RESTAURANT DOESN'T AT LEAST OFFER SIDE PLATES?? We asked for them, but in the end my boyfriend had to get up and walk into the restaurant to ask for some. No one paid him any attention as the 2 waitresses were busy chatting up some guys at the bar, so he just grabbed some from a table.8. We had gotten there a little later, so the sun was almost down. By the time we got our food it was almost pitch black and we couldn't see anything. They have little white lights strung along the fence but they were not on. There are ticki lights too...but they were not lit, and there were lanterns up on the posts...yes, you guessed it...not on. So my boyfriend had to use the light on his cell phone for us to actually see the food.9. The food was palatable but there was not enough bread or crisps. I asked if she could bring a few more of those as we had cheese and meat leftover. She went to the kitchen and was told they didn't have any more but if we wanted to wait they would make some. Make some? I had no confidence at this point that that could actually happen so I declined. She said she would bring something else. She ended up bringing a piece of bun, cut into strips and toasted. It was like something that you would give your 5 year old. 10. At this point I had to say something. Again, our waitress, Joey, was very sweet & apologetic, but was not properly trained. I asked to speak to the manager. She went to get him, and as expected by the lax in service & quality, he was not actually there...not there on a Friday evening in the summer on a LONG WEEKEND. She called him and he said he was on his way. I doubted that and of course Stephano the manager did not show up by the time we left.I can see if we were 12 people with a complicated order and if it was busy, but there was almost no one sitting inside and there were no more than 15-20 people outside and most were 2 people at a table. There is something seriously wrong at this restaurant. I walked inside afterwards and the inside is beautiful, but the focus for the VERY YOUNG and VERY UNTRAINED staff was the bar, with the large tv showing sports and quite loud music playing. I love music and it would have been great if they were playing it outside, but it was like they were turning the restaurant inside into their own club to hang for the night and work a little on the side. DO NOT GO HERE. Although this restaurant is doomed...it will probably not be there next year. If it is then there is something very suspicious going on there!
