Their food is always of the HIGHEST quality regardless of what you order...I have never been disappointed. My family's favorite is typically side salads with their homemade french blue cheese dressing, followed by pork tenderloin sandwhiches. I am incredibly SADDENED that I am sitting in the twin cities right now because I now feel desperate for their delicious food.
To the person who wrote go down to Betty 's pies and that the Rustic inn food was not good must enjoy happy meals. I have been to Betty 's pies and the Rustic inn as has my family. At Betty 's I got a frozen (thawed out) pie crust with a can of blueberries dumped on top heaped with ready whip. My wife got a banana cream pie that had 2 slices of banana in it and was once again more ready whip than anything else. At the Rustic inn I got a pie that had a delicious crumbly crust and ice cream on the side. Yes the wait was longer because the food is better but if you cant wait for perfection there is no point in life. So if you are fast food happy meal eating heart attack waiting to happen then the Rustic inn is not for you. If you enjoy life and want to take in as much as possible browse the gift shop while you wait or step outside and stare off into the beautiful scenery in the area and then sit down to a wonderful meal followed up with some really really good pie!
We were doing the Lake Superior tour and stopped for lunch. Loved the walleye sandwich..wonderful flavor and very generous serving. Had a taste of the Meringue Crust Lemon Pie and would love to have that recipe!! Fantastic food.... Will recommend to friends and hope to get there again!!!
Food was over salted. Pie was raw on the bottom. Server was rude and told us nothing was wrong with our food. Expensive for a place that calls itself a cafe.
We got a recommendation at an art store in Duluth when she found out we were heading for Split Rock Lighthouse. She said it was the best pie anywhere, and she was in earnest. Now, around here we're partial to Lange's Restaurant pies in Pipestone, but the Rustic Inn is the place to go if you're looking for pie to savor. I got the special, a lunch of blue fin herring, and it was pan-fried to perfection. The wife got a great sandwich, and we both got pie, mine a five-layer chocolate pie and hers an apple crumble. Service was fantastic. It's a great place to stop.
