This sophisticated restaurant offers delicious food with a great selection of both fish and meat dishes on the menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the loin of lamb with a flavorful Thyme sauce, while others at the table were equally pleased with their fish dishes.
The restaurant is at the first floor (should be the second floor according to the Finnish usage... anyway, one more floor vs. the ground floor... of a XIX century home, with high-ceiling, very spacious, very well decorated rooms with a nice blend of modern and vintage. Rooms are quiet with a relaxing background music. The food selection is OK, prices high as typically in Finland but OK if you consider the place and the quality of the service. Tried a smoked reindeer hors-d'oeuvre (nice presentation, interesting taste and a pan-fried pike (again wonderful presentation, the pike a little saltier than needed perhaps . Interesting bottled beers are available, tried a stout one. On the whole, an enjoyable and relaxing place, for a reasonable price.
The ambiance at this restaurant was lovely, but the menu was not particularly exceptional. We started with the deer tartare, which was rich and could have benefited from some lingonberries or other tart fruits to enhance the flavor. The rest of the dishes we tried were all quite standard and lacked that special touch that would have elevated them. If you appreciate traditional cuisine and a dependable dining experience, this restaurant will meet your expectations. The food was well-prepared, earning it 4 stars instead of 3. However, our experience was marred by frequent changes in waitstaff, which resulted in a rushed atmosphere. Additionally, another table near us experienced a long wait for their food. It seems there may be a management issue at play, as the service itself was friendly.
The food was absolutely delicious! If you're looking for Finnish cuisine, Oobu is the place to go. We had a great time and highly recommend it.
