Our experience at this restaurant on a Friday night was not very positive. Despite being the only table of six, we were seated at a large table that made it difficult to have a conversation. The table was adorned with oversized market-style flowers that obstructed our view of each other. The background music was unpleasant. The service was attentive, and the menu looked promising although expensive. The snacks we ordered were disappointing, with tough and overcooked pork cheeks and soggy whitebait. My main course of halibut was visually appealing but the fish was overcooked and dry. The leak fondue was excessively salty. Some of my dining companions also found their dishes too salty. The mash and beans were enjoyable. Dessert of pineapple and sorbet was tasty but we were not provided with forks. We had to flag down the waiter multiple times for water refills. Despite the restaurant's pleasant ambiance, ample parking, and impressive menu, I was let down by the overall dining experience. While it had the potential to be a great spot for special occasions, I don't plan on returning due to the disappointing food and service.
I have never written a review before but I could not believe how gross the food here was. My food was bland and burnt and the enchilada tasted of cardboard. Don't go here. I really regret paying for my meal. I've never eaten anything so tasteless and disgusting.
I have been here a number of time in last few years this will be my last visit. When we arrived there was a sign saying cash only I was told by waiter to take a walk to nearest cash point at Sainsbury's nearby 10min round trip!! I left my wife alone at table to get drinks while I took the walk. When I got back my wife had no drinks as she was unable to get attended at table while I was gone. This was a problem most of night as there only seemed to be two waiters for the restaurant when 4 would have been appropriate. We had to wait a long time just to ask for water on the table something that should be in the table from the start in a Mexican My food was good fajitas but my wife was not so sure about her enchiladas. We were not offer a dessert menu The menu was much reduced from our visits in previous years We left to find a nice bar rather than stay here as it was just so hard to get service and cash only!! We had every intention before our visit to stay late have desserts and drinks such a shame. I feel this once popular Mexican in a great location my have had its day.
My family and I hadn't visited Zapatas in 18 years. We heard that it had recently changed ownership, and after reading some negative reviews from the past, we were hopeful that it would be just as good as it was before. And we were not let down! Both my husband and I, as well as our two teenagers, thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, with one half of the space reserved for a large private party and the other half filled with tables. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious (I especially recommend the nachos, which were piled high with various toppings, and the chicken enchiladas). The cocktails were also very tasty. We will definitely be returning in the future.
