Contribuiți la feedbackA simple restaurant with friendly family. Typical Peruvian vegetarian menu, although they are brown rice (yes!). Some a la carte items, although many contain egg and milk, so not vegan. Sometimes food needed more tastes and spices, but as vegetarians... in Peru I won't complain.
I just stumbled on this hole-in-the-wall restaurant when I arrived in Trujillo eight days ago, but I was so impressed by my first dinner there that I finally ate all my lunch and dinner there until my last day, the exception is Sunday... Dinner when El Sol is closed. The atmosphere is very basic, but the food is excellent and I always ate the advertised 'Lunch' or 'Dinner' for five soles, a mere $1.93. For this I received a large bowl with hot veggies soup at any meal that was often built around Quinoa, a small salad of fresh, crispy vegetables and a main course around BROWN RICE and various combinations of vegetables, potatoes and sauces. Delicious, nutritious and fillable and so inexpensive. I surrendered BROWN RICE because I was only served in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama white rice. You will not find the more nutritious BROWN RICE served in Central and Latin America, but El Sol serves BROWN RICE (aka 'arroz integral'. And every lunch comes with a refreshment and every dinner a hot cup of herbal tea. Quino has cooked competently and served the dinner, and I have missed the name of the lunch kitchen probably because El Sol is a lot more busy at lunch and the cook was tied in the kitchen. In short or almost no waiting for the food and El Sol is just around the corner of my favorite Trujillo Hostel, Munay Wasi, with the inimitable Carmela.
Great vegetarian food. Lunch is an excellent value. Went with friends who were not vegetarian and usually do not eat vegetarian food, but they also liked the food. Very clean kitchen. The restaurant is visited by tourists and locals.
We tried to eat a night in this restaurant, but went in and it was so dirty that we left. We are sorry that we are vegetarians and it was hard to find veggie food in this city
A simple restaurant run by a friendly family. Typical Peruvian vegetarian fixed menu, although they serve brown rice (yeah!). Some a la carte items, though many contain egg and dairy, so not vegan. Sometimes, the food needed more flavor and spice, but, as a vegetarian in Peru, I won't complain.
