Great combination between classic vietnamese food and french cusine in a very nice setting. The presentations are quite original and the food fantastic. The staff was very frindly and speaks english.
Delicate, Exquisite... Fantastic! This is the place where you realize that you had never been nowhere near an amazing asian fusion meal before. Sarah, the chef, mixes local hearty products with delicate perfumes from Vietnam. And she would know what she is talking about, she is 50/50 French-Vietnamese. Beyond each dish, there is a story, which started at the local traditional food market of the Carmes where Sarah buys all of her products.Next, the wines! Needless to say that when I travel back to my native South-Western France, I cannot envisage a nice dinner without a very nice wine. Spot on again, L Empereur de Hue offers a prestigious, whilst affordable, wine list that has been curated to complement perfectly each dishes - and that without big fuss. Finally - the desserts. Hum! This is typically where most of local restaurants and asian fusion restaurants would fail! Well, I am happy to say that not here! Home made mascarpone with passion fruit sauce and cookie, or the chocolate "Baobab" filled with a trio of chocolate and nutty mousses with on the side an exotic sorbet. Sarah trained as a "patissiere" (pastry cook), notably training at patisserie "Poussin Bleu" another Toulouse institution when it comes to pastries. One word on the atmosphere - relaxing and perfect for a group dinner. Family feel, with Magalie, who will take care of you during your dinner and secretively cultivate a passion for wine that shows on the menu. Perfect!L'Empereur de Hue is amongst the Michelin recommendation. I came with my girlfriend and later brought many friends from London (where I live), Los Angeles and Paris. All, without exception, fell in love with Sarah's cuisine.
Original asian food, healthy and tasty in very nice environment, excellent service, but a bit on the expensive side...
I can pay a lot for a great meal. And at Hue in Toulouse, you really do get a good meal and great service, so it is harsh to give 3 of 5 points. It is really almost impossible to notice when you pass it, and I like that. It is a little too dark inside, but cozy. And for my friend, to view the golden dressed well adult woman on the neighbouring table with golden shoes and bag, was a beautiful experience for her. The food is good, but standard Vietnamese fair in Europe. Beautifully tender meat, but we nowadays need more details and/or surprises to pay 26 € for the main of the day and 16 for the starter of the day in a Vietnamese restaurant. The cheap once in Oslo are much more home cooking as I feel this should be, if one is not going towards a gourmet style cooking and presentation. The wine though was a beautifully dark colored, smoky tasting red from Fronton, Le Roc, based on 70% Negrette grapes that almost only grows there, brought there from Cyprus by the Crusaders. But great service and food.
