I wish I had made pictures of the food advertised on scoopon, as what we received was a very bad imitation. I seriously believe the obvious owners were sad that we came. I think the picture of the restaurant that is filled with the customers must have been hired actors. what could be made for a scandal that could be made from this restaurant and the line of warm servier containers along a wall must have been in the foretaste of christmas. a great shame, as most Scoopon offers represent great money and good food and that is the worst review I have ever given a restaurant.
The staff were friendly at arrival and during our meal, eating was presented in traditional way. it was full of beautiful aromen and very filling. we will return again.
Very unassuming restaurant with friendly staff, and we were attentively waited on. The wait for the food takes a good while but totally worth it knowing it’s cooked fresh with generous serving and bread top ups on a regular basis. The flavours and textures of the meat and vegetables were delicious and whilst highly flavoured were not spicy if you order the share tray, Individual dishes however were very spicy even the mild dishes so be careful if you are not used to sharp spices. The bread is unique a slightly tangy or sour bread with a pancake texture to it perfect to mop up the meals with The idea is to use your bread and fingers to eat but they are happy to supply plates and cutlery on request. Children are welcome but there is no child’s menu unless you order pasta as a main dish for them. Ethiopian beer was light to taste and easy to drink, and other wines etc were also available. Air conditioning was used so it made for a comfortable night. Parking on sides of streets but not at restaurant. We will definitely be back for more of those amazing dishes, definitely was worth the wait.
Went on Saturday night and had a so so experience. I dont want to be too harsh as it looks like a family restaurant and I hope they do well but I feel it could be so much better. My advise for what its worth, The lighting is too harsh and could be easily fixed. Dim the room down and give it a warmer feel. EXPLAIN THE FOOD !! We were clearly first timers and got no help with the menu or any explanations at all. We didn't even understand how the food is to be spooned into the bread to be eaten. Had to work it out ourselves. A smile goes a long way. Treat your customers like guests. We felt like a bit of an imposition. Over all the meal was reasonable and certainly it was good value for money. I hope they can work on creating a bit of atmosphere as t the moment its just a bit cold and un inviting.
I really enjoy coming to the Abyssinian. It has had a change of owner , but the food is still excellent . It is also very good value for money . The new owners have freshened the decor
