Hisaya Kyoto Chestnuts - Torrance

I'm so glad that I found this gem through a Yelp search. The chestnut donut was divine and the chestnut cake (I'm not sure the official name) had a unique texture that was extremely satisfying. All of our drink orders were great chestnut latte and green tea/honey boba tea. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in the area.

We tried the soft serve it was really good. There's only outdoor seating two tables. Also got the roasted chestnuts takes a bit but is worth it!

I've been to this plaza a couple times, but never knew about this place. At first I thought it was strange to have a food spot dedicated to roasted chestnuts. It just seemed so abstract and foreign to me. But I'm glad to have given it a chance. For those that don't know this place serves as a dessert/snack place. Similar to how pistachios have been relegated to delicious desserts, it's nice to know another nut could be added. Together, we had 3 different things: Fuji mountain Strawberry, Chestnut purée cake, and Vanilla and chestnut cone. The Fuji mountain strawberry was pretty good. It tasted like any other soft serve with strawberries. The added chestnut flavor did serve to complement the soft serve, but it didn't enhance it to the point where it would make or break it. That's probably due to vanilla with strawberries being solid in its own right.The chestnut purée cake was pretty unique as I've never had something like that before. If you want a stronger chestnut flavor, this is definitely the one to get to see if you like chestnuts.Lastly the vanilla and chestnut cone is the simplest in terms flavor complexity. The chestnuts are hinted in the vanilla and complements it pretty well. If you're curious for an Asian dessert out of the ordinary, look no further!

12/9/2022 I love small Japanese shops like this! I'm so happy to have found it, albeit a bit later. It seems this store has been around for many years. MONT BLANC Must-Try!This is their version of a mont blanc, but with a cheesecake layer. A thin cheesecake on the bottom, a large chestnut in the center, whipped cream, chestnut cream and another large chestnut on top! This was so dreamy! Beautiful, creamy chestnut flavor with a bit of sweet brown sugar flavor that was addictive. The cheesecake's texture was like a slightly coarser texture, like ricotta cheese. Not the typical creamy cheesecake texture. I think because it's supposed to be like this. Not meant to be a westernized version of a cheesecake. FUJI MOUNTAIN (CHESTNUT) Must-Have!Cheerios cereal at bottom, creamy chestnut vanilla soft serve ice cream, candied chestnuts, matcha waffle cookie and a sprinkling of oreo crumble on top! So delicious and that cheerios on the bottom was a welcomed surprise! CHESTNUT DONUT (CHESTNUT PUREE)The texture was that of a denser cake. With the chestnut piece on top of it, it did taste like chestnut, but without it, it tasted like a sweetened denser cake. It was good. Would go great with a lighter tea, such as jasmine tea or even a lighter green tea. CHESTNUT CAKE (CHESTNUT PUREE)The cake was dense. It seems to be a Japanese chestnut cake snack. The cake faintly tasted of waffle, yet it was very bland. The cake itself had a slightly hard crust than the filling which was soft. I know usually snacks like this are purposely bland as traditional Japanese sweets aren't sweet like Western snacks or sweets. The chestnut filling in the center was sweet though to balance the outer cake flavor. I wanted to like this, but I'm good having tried this once.CHESTNUT COOKIE (BLACK SESAME)The black sesame flavors were there, but with the chestnut flavor, it did not taste very good. There was a clashing of flavors. Would not recommend. Cards Only! No cash! There was a large plastic film at the front register, so any picture that has gloss over it are all behind the plastic film.CUSTOMER SERVICEI think the person who was attending to me was the owner. Her English was okay. But she kept her English simple, as English was not her first language. Overall service was good. No issues.

This place is heaven for someone who likes dessert with depth of flavor, not overkilling sweet, and satisfying. I stumbled upon this place while looking for ice cream and it was the best decision.We got bunch of different items with chestnut and other flavors more as a sample and we loved everything. Chestnut cake seemed little dry but it was still very delicious. I personally liked the red bean version better.Their cake donuts are the best. That's got to be my favorite from all the items we tried. We got all flavors and everything was great.Their cookies are a delicacy. My favorite was black sesame but matcha and Chestnut are equally great.It was a wonderful little Japanese dessert place. Theres so much culture to this place. It's a must try.I can't wait to go back and try more stuff including their icecream.
