Very Fair Chinese Restaurant - Toronto

Tasty food. Seafood is king here. Crab claws are as delicious as any restaurant. Lobster is cooked and seasoned very well. Steamed fish with soy is flaky and savoury. Lotus fried dessert is a wonderful surprise.<br/ <br/ E fu noodles are a let down in taste and texture. Pea shoots with enoki mushrooms also lack seasoning. Fried chicken is uneven juicy in parts, really dry in others.

This is an underground restaurant that can be reached by stairs or elevator. The clientele is mainly Chinese seniors and families. If you want authentic Chinese cuisine, this is the place to be. I tried the Beef Congee with Egg and it was absolutely delicious. It was served hot, fresh, and full of flavor - no extra sauce required. A truly delightful dish.

Their name is unimaginative but aptly describes the place – their pricing, service and overall offering is very fair. All dishes are $2.60 with the exception of steamed rice, which for $3.00 still doesn’t break the bank. <br/ <br/ The clay pot packs in a hefty portion of rice and has plenty of pieces of chicken on top. Disappointingly, it was their staple dishes that were a miss for me – the steamed pork dumpling’s siu mai texture a hard overworked pork paste and the steamed beef balls san jook now yook somewhat shrunken and sullen looking. <br/ <br/ Some were better: the steamed shrimp dumpling’s har gow dough a tad thick but encapsulated plenty of plump shrimp while the steamed rice rolls chueng fun soft and silky with an adequate ratio of filling.

This Cantonese Chinese restaurant offers food that is more than just "fair" and at fair prices. On weekdays, you can enjoy dim sum for a group of four for less than $35. The weekend menu offers more options, such as fresh scallops with garlic served in their shell, but prices are slightly higher. The food is quite flavorful overall, but the basement setting with loud chatter and no windows may not appeal to everyone.

I have been a frequent patron of Very Fair for some time now. While their service may not be the best, I have found the quality of their food to be consistently good. Some of my favorite breakfast items include Har Gow, Steamed Rice Roll with Beef, and Congee with Fish and Corn. For dinner, I enjoy dishes such as Fried Rice with Chicken, Garlic Lobster, Sweet and Sour Fish, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Egg Drop Soup with Chicken and Corn.
