Contribuiți la feedbackA big change from Lucien, very casual, my partner had lunch there and we decided to have dinner together on a Friday night ! It was very busy, we had a dozen oysters and three small dishes, wine was reasonable , not quite sure why it's called oyster, not that many selections to choose from, I would rather go to star fish or pure spirit next time if I wanted oyster , overall I enjoyed the small plates that we ordered, I would definitely go back, but not for the oyster .
Being a very cold new year's eve, we decided to stay close to home and dine at a local restaurant. We saw that the Olde Towne Bistro & Oyster Bar was offering a 5-course Prix-fixe for $59. Loving honest bistro cooking, we decided that this would be a good time to check it out as it recently opened. (It was previously Lucien - which was lovely but a bit pricey for us). Boy are we glad we did, as everything was great. A trio of PEI Oysters or classic Shrimp cocktail as amuse Bouches; seafood chowder or organic greens with hummus as a starter; then two (1) entrees: seared Pork Belly or seared albacore tuna, then duck confit & cassoulet or Lake Erie whitefish, the for dessert classic creme brulee or sticky toffee pudding. Service was efficient and pleasant, the courses well paced and efficiently delivered. the decor was warm and casual yet inviting. This is the fourth Bistro in the area, along with the Beer Bistro, O&B's Biff's and the disappointing Papillon. I hope Olde Towne Bistro & Oyster Bar is here to stay, as we'll be back... SOON!!!
Its the old Lucien, with a new Menu. As always: perfect food, perfect wine selection, perfect service, and now perfect prices Its a perfect place pre or post theatre Perfection
I had enjoyed my previous experience here and so last Friday my girlfriend and I decided that we deserved a really nice night out to get away from our busy schedules. The restaurant was quite busy with 2 large parties, however our server was able to find us a spot apart from the action. We had Shrimp Tempura, Seared Scallops, Warm Olives and Thuet Bread to start. Afterward we both ordered pasta, my girlfriend had the pasta of the day which was Chicken Ravioli and I had requested a vegetarian pasta be made for me. Everything was really amazing. The scallops were some of the best I've ever had (even being raised on the East Coast). The tempura was really tasty and well balanced (even some Japanese restaurants can be too greasy or not the right amount of batter). The rest of our starters were just perfect for snacking with our wine. I really enjoyed the maturity of the McMannis Pinot Noir and my girlfriend in favor of larger fuller bodied wines was pleasantly surprised by the Tin Roof Cabernet Sauvignon.Normally I don't expect much when asking for a vegetarian option on a menu but the pasta they made for me was again so impressive as it was unique. Pasta is a regular go to for me when in restaurants but the sauce was so different and almost legendary! lolDessert wasn't necessary but almost unavoidable out of curiosity. We had the Chocolate Tart and the Creme Brulee. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to brulee and I was not disappointed at this one at all; straight up and well executed. The Chocolate Tart blew me away; the crust put oreos to shame and the filling was rich, smooth chocolaty goodness. The service was really great. Despite being obviously busy with a large table the server repeatedly checked in with us to ensure that we were having a great time. She was really knowledgeable and helpful in making choices from the menu. The new incarnation of this restaurant is definitely worth checking out. I appreciate the new menu with more small dishes as it allows us freedom from the 3 course meal format and the chance to try more diverse flavours.
I was there with a group, and a friend had pre-arranged a fixed price menu. The manager said he would send out some oysters for everyone, which ended up on everyone's bill. As well, when I got there and they said would you like some ice water, I said sure, yes still water would be great. They took this to mean, pour me water from an Evian bottle and charge me $10, instead of giving me a heads up that they would be charging me. A friend got a meal made vegetarian and when they brought it with meat and he mentioned it, they gave him attitude. The food was good but the portions were small, and the cash grabs and poor service ensure I won't go back.
