Contribuiți la feedbackMy wife visited Australia as an exchange student years ago and was excited to see the boomerang on the sign in the distance. When we got closer, she was even more excited to see that this place serves Aussie Meat Pies! YUM We sampled several and all were good. The Kiwi Classic with beef and cheese was so good we ordered a second one. I liked the Mum's Chicken Pie, but wish it had a touch more "sauce" inside. The Canadian was good and tasted a little like BBQ Beef. The Sausage Roll was also good - would be fine for breakfast or lunch. If we lived in Toronto, I think we would be eating here all the time!
Nice break from typical food court type meals. Their pies are a perfect size, very tasty and the ultimate in comfort food. A nice salad on the side and you are set for the day. Planning on trying them all.
Checking the computer for MEAT PIES, i came across Kanga Pies in Commerce Court. popped in and bought 3. oh how delicious they were. I then returned a week later and purchased 8 more and froze some for later eating.as PedalNinja said in his review, they are a bit expensive and small, BUT they are soooooooooooo delicious. they had a great tasting meat filling and a vbery pastry like shell. BUT please bring the price down a bit!on my second visit i purchased one Butter Chix. yes, the taste was there, but over all was lacking because of the size of the pie -- will stay with the Traditional Aussie!!!!and I WILL be back for more!!!!!!!
I popped in this little shop in commerce court out of pure curiosity, no offence to my Aussie brothers and sisters, but it's not a common occurrence to see a food shop devoted to Australian food. To be honest, beyond Vegemite. i didn't know much else about Australian food, nor did i think it would be any different than north american food. This place however, specializes in Aussie meat pies, the guy behind the counter suggested the Canadian style pie, and i also bought the Kiwi (New Zealander) pie, i have to say they were pretty damn great, the pastry was flaky, crispy and buttery, and the filling was superb, the Kiwi pie had minced meat and cheddar. and the canadian had big chunks of steak, canadian bacon and some veggies. The guy behind the counter was absolutely right, the canadian was AWESOME!! These pies are definitely worth trying. However a little on the expensive side for such a small pie ($6.85) as 1 is a snack size and 2 could be a small meal. Really $4.50 to $5.00 would be more reasonable, this could prove challenging for this business in the long run with this high price point, definitely over valued. I would safely bet that they could do better business with a lower price point. But i digress.. Overall i was really pleasantly surprised at how good these pies are, they are quite delicious. They also sell them uncooked so you can take them home and make them later or freeze them. I will definitely be returning to try the other meat pies they have, well except the zucchini one, because, well it's Zucchini and we just don't get along... They use high quality ingredients as well, including delicious sausages from Sanagan's in their sausage rolls. I highly suggest trying this place out, Unique and delicious :)
If you're craving for an Aussie-style meat pie or just want to try one for the first time Kanga is likely your best bet in the city. This is Kanga's first new location outside of their Duncan Street original store and it is most conveniently located for the downtown office workers in the Commerce Court food court. Kanga offers about a half dozen choices including the traditional minced beef pie which I ordered. The pastry was nice and flaky and the meat rich with just the right amount of beef gravy. There are a few interesting twists including the Canadian (with steak and bacon) and Butter Chix (chicken curry in a tomato cream sauce). Remember, the best way to eat a pie is right from the small paper bag they're served in.
