Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel

I went here with a group of ladies for a friends Bachelorette and to he quite honest for the price you pay, I was a little underwhelmed. Overall, all the sandwiches, save for the lobster profiterole, were tasty and enjoyed. The scones with the cream were very very good, and the other desserts I found personally to be a bit too sweet. Though what truly saved the afternoon was whatever dessert was in the little glass cup, made my $50 a little more worth it. Needless to say, this was a one time experience that I can't see myself doing again.

Every year I like to plan fun get-togethers for my friends and I. After such an amazing experience at Shangri la Toronto afternoon tea, I thought the Royal York would be even better. Boy was I wrong. The hotel is gorgeous, always has been. However my high tea was a low class disappointment. After many friendly emails between Tatiana and I - I was assured I would be accommodated with vegan friendly options. When I arrived, I immediately let my server know that I am the vegan in the group, at first I received a puzzled expression from here and then she mentioned they don't have vegan options and she was not aware of it. Bummer - there goes our FUN Afternoon Tea - I didn't want to spoil our time together and enjoyed the delicious tea (that is served in tea bags) The staff made a make shift vegan meal for me - the finger sandwiches were good however the dessert was a HUGE disappointment especially after watching my friends enjoy their non vegan gorgeous desserts. I received a few pieces of berries, a scoop of sorbet and gelatin squares (gelatin is not vegan friendly - I mentioned this to my server and did not consume them)I did reach out to the Afternoon Tea Supervisors at Fairmont, however, they mentioned that what I received was their vegan option, they will review their gelatin squares and offered an invitation back for an identical meal/experience - I kindly declined, since I would not return to Fairmont for their lack of vegan friendly options / quality of tea and food and high price points compared to other Afternoon Tea establishments in the city.

We got reservations for tea with the new menu honoring the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their recent visit to Canada. Served in the smaller more masculine library bar at the hotel, it was an intimate setting for tea.The food was good: both sweets and tea sandwiches which were explained to us as served. We complimented the tea with a glass of champagne! It was truly a delightful relaxing afternoon!

This is pricier than most high teas but worth it. The setting is beautiful and the hotel is stunning and feels special. A great range of food, all delicious. We did the hotel tour afterwards which was good but unfortunately most important parts were closed due to a wedding.Overall, nice for a special occasion.

Sometimes one needs moments where you allow yourself to be served as royals... This is one of these places where that will happen to you. Great choice of canopies, comfy lounge chairs, choices of wines, spirits, teas, coffees, ..and a staff that is in total servant mode with a smile. Enjoy the good life.
