Vitulia - Torino

Inside the former trendy setting now the restaurant is run by the chinese family that was before in the near small outlet. it's not the usual italianized chinese place but a real one, catering mainly to the chinese community highly reccomended unbeatable prices, the lunch mixed dish is about 4.50 eur

I wandered into Ristorante Vitulia by chance. It 's located in central Turin, between the main railway station and the River Po, in an area where there are a few similar small restaurants. I was served quickly and friendly, there seems to be several young waitresses taking care of customers. My restaurant Italian was well understood, and all I can say about the staff is that they did their job well. I was quickly served the complimentary cheese and the small welcome Prosecco (which is however charged for, although it only costs 2€ . As starter, I went for mussels, which were really quite tasty – you don 't have to travel to Brussels to get good mussels. As the main course I chose the bolete risotto, because I had made exactly the same meal at home very recently, and I wanted to compare it to theirs. A bit embarrassing to say, but Vitulia should quickly recruite me as their chef, if they were to make a name for themselves by serving good mushroom risotto. It wasn 't bad, but at best only quite okay. Along with the meal I had a glass of unnamed red wine (supposedly a local Piedmonte red , which was quite good and rounded. It wasn 't so superb that I would have asked to see the bottle, though. The risotto was large enough, so I decided to skip the dolce , and had a shot of grappa instead, which was very nice, and cost only 3€. The overall cost was 28 euros, pretty ok price-value. If you 're hungry, and look for a cosy, basic Italian, Vitulia is recommended, but don 't expect it to really shake your view on Italian food.
