El Chilar Mexican - Topeka

There were many tempting options on the menu, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Chili Colorado, as not many places serve it. I opted for the Chili Verde, while my wife chose the pan-fried taco dinner, both served with beans and rice. Our meals arrived at just the right moment; we had just finished our chips when the dishes were placed before us. The presentation was excellent, and the food was served hot and freshly prepared. The pork in the Chili Verde was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor, and my wife raved about her chicken tacos, noting they were wonderfully seasoned and expertly prepared. Although business was slow that night due to the snow, the owner mentioned it, yet this speaks volumes about the restaurant. When food is consistently well-prepared and flavorful, it shows the dedication of the establishment, especially during quieter times. My wife and I highly recommend El Chilar, and I’m looking forward to trying the Chili Colorado on our next visit.

Absolutely authentic… not the Tex-Mex kind, but the real deal you’d expect from your Mexican grandma. The food and service were fantastic. I enjoyed both the menudo and chicken mole, and they were outstanding. They offer all the traditional Mexican soups, including caldo de res, albóndigas, menudo, and pozole. This is a must-visit spot in Topeka. Let’s support the small businesses that are committed to our community!
