La generala is known for its delicious and traditional Mexican cuisine. at our arrival in the wonderful casa bentley boutique hotel we received a voucher for two free buffets in the restaurant la generala. we're glad we used the badge early there, we came back a few days later. we ordered the buffet both paints. it was so reasonable price for the quality and quantity of food. there were also enough free parkings in front of the restaurant, so if they are going through todos santos, this is a great place to stop. first I was worried about the idea of a buffet due to COVID concerns, but the restaurant seemed to meet a full of safety precautions. our first impression when we went to the restaurant was the beautiful atmosphere and pleasant smell of eating. the menu was fascinating, but we appreciated the selection of dressed at the buffet. I have a milk allergy, and while I could not eat the food with milk, butter or cheese, there was still a great choice to choose. fresh homemade blue maistortillas were prepared at the end of the buffet on a grill over a hearty fire and served by our waiter. also hot chips and salsa were brought to our table. it was all very delicious. there was really a party in my mouth as I swore every bit. we ate in la generala two days apart, and while some of the buffet dishes were the same, others were different. they had chicken mols on both days. how it was great. I can't say enough about how perfectly cooked the fried beans were prepared. they had a subtle smokey and delective taste that they were cooked over a hearty fire in traditional style. the salsa was also unbelievable, which unfortunately left me on chips! the only problem at la generala was that I had eaten too much, which is often the after all-you-ca-eat buffets. have I mentioned mescal? when they drink alcohol, the thin mescal margaritas were refreshing wonderfully not too sweet or sour. I ordered a first day and two at our second visit! Of course, they can never go wrong with a cold bottle of beer, which was served with a frosty cup from the freezer for my man. at both visits the service was excellent. we were glad to meet the owners of this family-run restaurant, and we discovered the connection to the casa bentley boutique hotel. alvaro, the manager, was her son-in-law! both of us were sitting on a table on the terrace next to the country, overlooking a large garden. we were able to observe birds while we were sweetening our meal. we also saw good and held an eBird list. So if they are a bird traveling through todos santos, this is the place to stop for a satisfying meal. the restaurant la generala should not be missed by anyone who appreciates well prepared traditional Mexican cuisine!
After COVID, and Souplantation going out of business, I thought I'd never see another buffet. So imagine my surprise when I walked into La Generala and saw the spread. Wonderful Mexican dishes in a delightful, mostly outdoor setting. Hand made purple tortillas. Dog friendly. Buffet...was pesos.
We went on the recommendation of a local and we were not disappointed. The mole is amazing, I can't even describe how perfect it was. The staff was all masked, and the restaurant was super clean. We had drinks and the buffet, the bartender knows...how to make a drink! Definitely recommend.
We were there day one some years ago and come back every year. Jonathan is the new bartender this year and he is awesome. He makes his on alcohol. He's experimenting with Mexcal and you must have him make you his signature marg. Off the...charts. The buffet is really special, authentic Mexican food. We were the only Gringos in the place. Do not miss this very special place.
