Fry Basket Fish & Chips - Thornhill

This place has been opened for a long time! Longer than the number of people who needed open heart surgery, gastric bypass, Jenny Craig...Don't get me wrong, this isn't my first time here and probably not my last time either. This place is the place you go when you want to run through the culinary gambit with reckless abandonment and no care for the future. Or...you just want to get some great tasting Fish and Chips or Breakie!They have awesome F&C. They also do a great all day breakie, hamburgers, and other "foods." Generous portions is an understatement here. However, you will be out CA$H! Halibut and Chips runs you about $20 before tax and tips. Yikes! Also, whether you order breakie with 1, 2, or three eggs...same price.I usually get one order of fish and chips as we can share. Today, there was 5 of us, and we ordered double fish with chips and a 3 egg Breakie. That was it. More than enough food. The guy behind us had an order of F&C and a hamburger platter! Wow insanity!Enjoy responsibly....

We went there and the cashier immediately told us that they were busy and we would have to wait to be seated. I said we actually wanted take out. We then were looking at the board to see what they had. The cashier said we needed to move out of the way so other people could get by. But there was no one trying to get by. She was very rude. We left without ordering and we went to the Pickle Barrel where we were welcomed and had great customer service.

I came in for a late lunch on a Friday. The restaurant was clean. I found the menu was on the pricy side. I had Halibut with salad. The portions were huge and I couldn't finish it all. The fish was very good. The dressing for the salad had too much vinegar in it. I would have liked a bigger glass for my iced tea (can). I also missed not having lemon with my fish. My server was very friendly and she appreciated my business. I did not have to wait long for my food.

If you are looking for a greasy spoon breakfast this is the place for you! Huge portions, not a great atmosphere but worth the price if you just want eggs and bacon.

I live around the corner from this restaurant and after 3 years or walking and driving by I thought I would stop in for lunch. I had a craving for fish and chips all week and this looked like the perfect place to pacify it.As this place fronts Yonge Street there is no parking in the front. As expected I found reserved parking in the rear. A quick scan of the plaza I found the back door. On entry I could see this was an older restaurant but in this day age if it made it this far the place must have good food, I was not let down. I was planning for takeout so I approached the cashier and she waited while I scanned the menu, before I could decide she recommend 1 piece of fish and fries as she explained the fish is large. I was good for that and ordered. While I waited she offered coffee but I passed. Lunch was up and I was out the door in about 10 minutes. When I got hot I was shocked at the amount of fries they provide and as she said the piece of fish was large. I enjoyed the fish first and made a best effort at the fries. Looks like they are hand cut and double cooked. I was stuffed after and very pleased I stopped in for lunch. I think I will hit this place once a month going forward.I also noted they have breakfast on the menu as well, maybe one day I don’t feel like cooking I will try it out.
