We had booked a week in advance for a special occasion, and the ambiance was beautiful and relaxed, perfect for a family outing. The staff were lovely and very attentive.
The service at this restaurant is incredibly poor. We were unable to make a booking despite waiting for 2 days, which was frustrating but manageable. However, even simple takeout orders such as pizza or hamburgers at 6pm on a Thursday evening during the Christmas holiday were not being accepted. It was still light outside and it was baffling that takeout orders had to be placed by 5pm and picked up by 5:30pm. Who eats dinner at 5:30pm, especially during the holidays? This restaurant risks going out of business if they do not improve their service, or lack thereof.
The service at this restaurant left much to be desired. We had a pre-booked late Sunday dinner and were immediately seated outside on a semi-constructed terrace with winter winds gusting through the plastic blankets. The waitstaff handed us menus and then disappeared, leaving the mostly empty dining room unattended due to frequent trips to the restroom and bar. We questioned why they would seat guests outside in the winter when it was clearly not necessary. We placed our order quickly once we realized there was no table service, but certain items were unavailable and the staff struggled to accommodate our food preferences. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, and we were informed that the whisky we had enjoyed the previous day was not available. Eventually, the whisky arrived, but not before seeing the original bottle half-opened indoors. Our entrees arrived at staggered intervals, and we found ourselves cold, hungry, and unimpressed by the overall experience. The next morning, we returned for scones and coffee only to be told they were unavailable, and we could not take the coffee to-go unless purchased from the gift shop. Disappointed, we decided to forgo the surcharge and treat ourselves to a day trip at a different, more hospitable pub.
We have burger to lunch and a couple beer and it was expensive! we were happy to pay as we support the locals, but after 2 x very bland burger without taste we were pretty devastated. the most delicious. lunch was the fresh of the rolls! would not recommend to eat here at lunch when they are on a budget or have a few mouths to feed, it is expensive and not worth it. on the other side the service was good, conveniences were clean and generally nice caffe.
The very accommodating manager found a table for 4 of us despite being at capacity. The food was surprisingly high quality. It was beautifully presented and all our dishes tasted delicious: 2 x Slow cooked lamb shanks, duck confit and battered Barra. The panna cotta...dessert was to die for. There is a good wine list too! The service staff are very attentive and professional. Whilst the meals may feel slow to arrive there is a warm ambience in the Bistro. I eat out a lot in Melbourne and on my travels, this restaurant was surprising in providing good quality food. Thank you.
