Abuelo's Mexican - The Colony

I ordered vegetarian articles and I should say they're less than okay. I'm gonna give three? I was here a while ago and enjoyed the food, but this time not.

Our first time here and it was a wonderful experience!? We were shopping at Nebraska Furniture Mart and were hungry afterwards so we decided to try Abuelo's and it was not disappointed! The service was phenomenal! Our server, I'm so sorry I can't remember her name, maybe Claudia? She was incredibly nice, funny, prompt with service, refilling drinks, napkins, bring our food, etc. Unfortunately this day and age, friendly and fast servers are dwindling, so such a wonderful experience with her was a breath of fresh air. The bathrooms were also very clean. The food! The food was so delicious! The chicken I always find a little dry in most Mexican restaurants was surprisingly tender and moist; The shrimps had their own unique Bbq sauce, which put my taste buds on their own spicy and sweet journey : The Guacamole appetizer tasted fresh and the chips and salsa you received were delicious and a great variety. They had the spicy salsa, their traditional table restaurant salsa and a nice sweet, with a little citrus thrown in there verde salsa. A wonderful first time in Abuelo's:

That was our first time. Place had a good ambience. I gave 4 stars because the food we ordered was a little salty. We tried the house specialty Tilapia in spicy sauce and shrimp chicken stuff. Your flame was a good attempt!

Only giving 2 stars because the waitress provided good service and the decor was nice. Other than that there are no redeeming qualities about the actual food. This was my 2nd time going in about 3yrs as i like to give places a 2nd chance. The food had only changed for the worse. There were no Mexican people eating here, which should be the 1st red flag. The sauce that was brought ranged from mediocre to bad. The main course was completely over priced, especially considering the lack of quality and flavor, even the rice and beans left everything to be desired. Like how badly can you mess up rice and beans? I could never justify ever going back here again. This restaurant is a stain on the Mexican Cuisine. I am not sure how this place has 4.4 stars, clearly the dangers of having people that didn't grow up eating proper Mexican food be able to rate Mexican food.

Excellent service. It used to be one of my favorite places. Food quality and quantity were really great, but it seems that inflation hits them hard. The food was just average.
