After a long 1700km drive from Pt Douglas, we arrived at Barkly Homestead and found it to be a shining gem on the journey from Queensland to Darwin. The cabin was comfortable, the pool was beautiful for cooling off, the gardens were lush and green, and the food was excellent. Needless to say, we had a restful night's sleep.
Before crossing the Northern Territory border, we exhausted all our supplies, only to find out we didn't need them as we didn't pass through a quarantine station. Road stops along the way do not offer supplies, so we opted to have lunch at the bar and grill instead. We ordered a steak sandwich with chips, which was enjoyable, although the portion size was too much for me and I had to take leftovers home. We found the prices for the food to be reasonable, but the cost of drinks was a bit on the higher side. It's worth noting that the bar only accepts cash, but there is an ATM nearby.
I am here now, nice place and have only food and was nice, unfortunately the staff here are rude and no where what u would want to be served by how the road here is 300 Kms before u meet someone and then... the first person u meet is a grim little person (woman, the Bars orders were h must go and u can not order here and u need to go to the bar to order then get back drink
What a great place, middle of nowhere and for the facilities to be such an oasis is a credit to the owners and managers, its really hard getting anything in remote areas let alone maintain such quality. Facilities like this survive on our patronage and...support, make sure you drop in, buy a beer and have a feed minimum..
