Only a single cup coffee maker, accompanied by a single serving for regular and for decaf. Both dark roast. I personally don't like dark roast. Lighting is still cfl bulbs, and half of them were unscrewed. The fridge worked, but only one microwave is available, at the front desk, in our case, an elevator ride away. Bathroom was better than most i the same price range, but the toilets are not low flow. For a place trying to save, they should invest in utility saving options such as LED bulbs and low flow toilets. Additionally, the Tenafly downtown area does not open for breakfast until 9:00 am. Only two bagel shops seem open earlier, which is not good for those who may have restrictive diets. Hotel staff were friendly enough.
This hotel is in need of a major overhaul. Tenafly does not have many options, which is maybe why the Clinton Inn has been able to delay a remodel, but it is time. The rooms are out of date and many are falling apart. The paint is bad, there are dents, chips, holes in walls, and the carpet for sure needs to be replaced. (See all the Yelp photos. The lobby has potential, but the 'store ' is ridiculous. Food and frozen meals but only one microwave and no plastic silverware. If I spend $5 for ramen, you 'd think there would be some water around, but nope, had to buy a $3 water bottle, and then the microwave isn 't really tall enough for the container. Simple things to fix that would save guests tons of annoyance. The desk workers were nice, but it 's hard to overcome the state of the rooms and the store. It 's really time to put some money into the hotel.
My husband and I arrived on SaturdayApril 20,2024. There were over 20 unsupervised tiny toddlers running and climbing all over the place in the lobby . They were playing on the stairs and on the suitcase carts and riding scooters all over the lobby . There were match cars everywhere and I slipped and tripped . A man was trying to checkin and was yelling at the front desk employee. We left to grab pizza and came back in an hour . Children still buzzing around all over the place . We were told they were the owners children and this is a frequent occurrence. It was so loud so I asked if there was a 3rd floor room . Then a woman interrupted and said her room was never cleaned and she had put the cleaning tag on the door . We were so tired but decided it was best to leave . This is so sad because this place used to be beautiful. I grew up in Tenafly and frequently went to the Inn for fancy events and for delicious dinners at their restaurant. The owner is definitely NOT using this hotel as a hotel business. He must live there with his 30 children .
Beautiful, old hotel that looks like it was very grand and majestic in its day. It does need some updating but the beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. Staff is friendly. Parking is somewhat awkward- there is some parallel parking in the front and regular parking on the side but there is additional parking in an added structure that looks pretty sketchy.
Without going into it in depth (that would be a novel), don 't do it. We booked for a two week stay and have changed hotels after 3 days. Reasons: 1. No coffee or food in the hotel whatsoever 2. No heat 3. No towel service other that the every other day scheduled housekeeping service. 4. Unhelpful/unfriendly/nasty front desk staff. Example: When I used a food delivery service for my morning coffee (since they have none), they stopped the person from delivering my coffee and roll to my room. I was called by the desk and told to come down if I wanted my coffee. I was in a robe, waiting to have coffee before I got dressed! The front desk refused to send it up themselves. 5. In every area you could see the lack of maintenance. The place is falling apart. In other words, save your money.
