Whenever in Telluride, La Marmotte is always my favorite for a friends and family get together... wonderful selection of food you won't find anywhere else in this town or many others. A bit pricey but always worth it. Great staff, wonderful descriptions of the special dishes, warm and friendly. Don't miss it!
We traveled to Telluride for the first time, and I made the reservation because I know this has been a beloved Telluride institution. The service was attentive and excellent. Perhaps not quite warm but pleasant. Everyone in our group was happy with the food overall. The Byaldi was beautiful and delicious and very French, and the Wagyu ribeye lived up to expectations. Missing the mark in our opinion were the Mississippi Joe salad and the cold corn soup. The salad ingredients list “stone fruit” and given that it was the season of the divine Colorado Palisade peach, which in August is featured on the menu of every high end Colorado Front Range restaurant much further away from Palisade than this restaurant, I would have expected the salad to feature those delicious slices, instead of small diced unrecognizable pieces of “stone fruit.” The soup du jour was a cold corn soup, which had some good flavors but was too sweet. But for us the main downfall of the restaurant is the space. We were a group of five seated indoors at the back of the restaurant, which has no windows and gets quite smoky from the open kitchen. Halfway through our experience, they seated a very large, boisterous party next to us, so close that the backs of the other party’s chairs hit the backs of those in our party. It was overwhelming in such a small space. I felt particularly sorry for the table of two next to us, who turned their chairs away from the large party and from their own table. I might suggest that they space their large groups out better, which I think they could with some creativity. The restaurant does have outdoor seating in the summer, and I wish they had offered that to us or we had asked. Although frankly even that space was underwhelming and charmless, lacking planters of flowers or fun lights and having most of the outdoor space heaters turned off and crammed together. The space is better suited to a cozy, indoor winter meal than a lovely summer meal.
Fantastic food as always. Wine list haas expensive and inexpensive gems. Service outstanding.
Our favorite restaurant in Telluride. Every bite is a treat and you can tell how much the whole team cares about ensuring guests have a wonderful experience.
