Contribuiți la feedbackALWAYS enjoy our visits/meals! However, it is one of the few local restaurants we take out of town guests because the prices are extremely high for some of the food items. $16 for 1 chili relleno is a bit much! Wait staff is ALWAYS pleasant, attentive and helpful!
The food was really good. The service not so much. We were seated around the same time as a party of 14, so when we ordered our drinks, we also gave our order for our meals. We waited and waited for our drinks, and could not get our waitress 's attention to get a status on them. Eventually our food came out and we still had not received our drinks. Our waitress did rush to get them to us, but we really wanted our drinks first, before our meals. We were comped the drinks, but the service did detract from our experience. We were not the only ones impacted by the lack of service. As we were told by our waitress, we heard other wait staff telling saying to other guests: there is a party of 14, so the kitchen (or bar) is backed up. There appeared to be either a lack of staffing or management this particular evening. We went to the adjoining bar after dinner and it seemed to be just as hectic as the dining room.
The red, crunchy bits (red corn chips) on the outside of the rellenos are brilliant and delicious! The green chile stew is still the best in New Mexico, as far as I know—can anyone tell me where it’s better? The chocolate ice cream is incredibly rich, and the churros were amazing and fresh. There’s live music every night here with no cover charge. This place is a true Taos original with an iconic legacy.
The service was extremely disappointing. It took a long time for someone to take our order, and then we were completely forgotten after we ordered our appetizers. The prickly pear margarita was obviously artificially colored and tasted like a pre-made mix. The green chili stew was overly thick and pasty, as if it had been thickened with too much flour. While the entrees that other diners received looked appealing, we ultimately decided to leave after waiting far too long.
Our hostess, a former neighbor, greeted us with bright smiles that set a welcoming tone for the evening. Our server, whose name unfortunately escapes me, was simply wonderful! He was friendly and personable while maintaining a professional demeanor. I was thrilled to see some old favorites on the menu like the Chili Rellenos, which were just as delicious as I remembered. We also shared the Elote dip—don’t skip this appetizer! It was flavorful, cheesy, and decadently served with chicharrones. Simply fantastic! For my main course, I chose the tacos with my beloved Carne Adovado, and I wasn’t disappointed, although I wish the Carne was still offered as a standalone dish. My friends ordered the Torta and a shrimp dish, both of which they thoroughly enjoyed. We capped off our meal with churros for dessert, which I highly recommend. If you find yourself in Taos, be sure to stop by Doc Martin's and the Taos Inn, where you can still experience a taste of old Taos hospitality and the ambiance that once made the Adobe Bar the heart of the town.
