1918 Bistro & Grill - TANUNDA

Had a fabulous dinnerAnd dang the food, drinks, and service could not have been better.

I was a little underwhelmed with my experience at the renowned 1918 Restaurant to be honest. The setting was nice with a cosy warm fireplace blazing on

On entering we were made welcome and given a table near the fire. The service was faultless and the food fantastic. The kangaroo was cooked to perfection and the pork beautifully presented. The salad was fresh and tasty. Desert was heavenly.

1918 Bistro is housed in a lovely cottage in Murray Street Tanunda. We stopped here for lunch & were not disappointed. We enjoyed the fillet steak & the snapper which was cooked to perfection. The wine list was expensive with a good selection of Barossa Valley wines. The staff were efficient & friendly.

Nice atmosphere with small rooms and open fireplace makes 1918 a good place to escape mid-winter chills. Very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Extensive wine list is not inviting with recognisable local wines at 400%+ markup to retail prices. Very large selection of $200+ wines clearly not aimed at locals. Food was a mixed experience. The $40 300g scotch fillet steak was excellent and cooked to perfection, but disappointingly served only with two small onions and some potato crisps. Needed to spend another $10 for some leafy greens that were bitter to the taste. The $39 chicken consisted of one chicken leg - yes, one chicken leg that was plain tasting with no obvious marinade or spice and accompanied by a small amount of vegetables. The house ciabatta bread with olive oil was very good. Two meals, a salad, 1 serve of bread and two glasses of wine for lunch = $119. If both meals were good, this review would be different, but the experience was not good value for money. Would not recommend and will not visit again.
