I call this the unknown foodcourt because even when it's busy, it’s not really that busy. But it is definitely much better this way as you can always find a seat and eat in peace. Ito's offers relatively cheap food with decent portions. I've tried the laksa and a customized stir fry noodle and both were enjoyable. It's not anything out of this world but it serves me well for lunch and they are reliable. I would not hesitate to go back again!
I used to visit the North Sydney shop regularly when I worked there, glad they have a branch in CBD close to my new office. I am a big fan of their laksa and decided to try Har Mee for a change. Har Mee has quite pungent smell as the broth is made from prawn heads, it is definitely an acquired taste. The broth should have a perfect balance of fishiness from the prawn, heat from chilli paste and sweetness from palm sugar. This har mee I ordered was probably the hottest one I had tried, I didn't even add extra chilli paste. It could use a bit more sugar to balance out the saltiness as well. Overall it was good but didn't blow me away. thernbdiary.com
Ordered the Hainan chicken ($9.80) and chicken laksa ($9.50). Both great dishes. The Hainan chicken was moist and tender...almost velvety in the mouth. The laksa was quite coconuty. The broth is certainly different from other laksa joints with the specks of herbs adding a subtle flavour. It was also quite spicy without extra chilli. Overall an awesome lunch spot.
Heard about the famous Hainan Chicken Rice of this food outlet and try to explore. Walked from the Town Hall station across the road up the hill from Woolworths. Eventually, turned around the corner where the Starbucks located, I found the food court where this food outlet located. It was quite busy there and I ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice and Laska at once. Well, the chicken was good but not to the extra-ordinary standard and so as the Laska. However, I do like the idea of DIY on choosing the types of noodles, ingredients and sauces from the menu. It is so interactive between chefs and diners subject ot individual tast buds. No wonder they are so busy.
