Flavor 19 - Sydney

I attended a dinner with friends at Flavor 19 thinking the prices would be insanely expensive and the portions small (this is what I had heard from others) but was pleasantly surprised to learn the prices were just right considering my meal was delicious and the portion was so large that I had to pack half of it up to take home with me! The ambiance in the private dining area we booked was perfect. It was closed away from the main area so the group could enjoy our dinner and conversations without being disturbed but there was lots of room to room around. Although the rest of the restaurant looked crowded, it was not noisy the tables were not too close together as far as I could see as I passed through on my way out. The service was fast and friendly and everyone's orders were delivered correctly. We lingered around for a while after dinner was finished and no one tried to hurry us along.

There is a generous concept right now. Buy one, get one. We were excited. Highlight was the salad and slaw that came with the calamari appetizer and it went downhill from there. Both filets were tough. The Ched and B burger was dry and on a cheap bun. The fish of the fish and chips could've been from a box and was cold. No malt vinegar, only white vinegar and I would've liked to have dunked in it to get the fish flavorful. Desserts are also BOGO but the cake was again dry as in 'baked for last weekend and didn't sell'. The chocolate Creme brûlée did have good flavor. I ordered a glass of wine and when it arrived (a generous pour) the wine glass had wet water droplets all on the inside as though it had been rinsed and shaken dry and not dried with a clean cloth. Just a wet wine glass. I dislike writing these negative thoughts truly because there is a lot of potential for this place. The location is beautiful, the decor is comfortable modern, very appealing. Gorgeous old wood floors. Comfortable chairs. Hopefully they'll figure it out.

I have been a fan of the flavor downtown restaurant because of its healthy, gluten free options. When flavor 19 opened I was super excited to have even more restaurant options to dine at. Over the past year Favor 19 has really gone downhill. They really need to hire new waiting staff...most of the staff sit around on the lounging chairs and it's really annoying! They are also not very knowledgeable of allergies, even though they claim to be. I had to send my food back twice during one visit. After several bad experiences I have just stopped going there all together. The food is tasty but the staff and broken chairs ruin the experience for me. I think they would get better business in hiring new staff...just my opinion.

The food at Flavor 19 is the best you'll eat. My daughter had her wedding there last summer and guests bragged saying it was the best wedding meal they have ever had. I ate there just last week and it will not disappoint. My husband, who loves his food, said it was probably the best meal he has ever had. Priced well and so unlike the garbage you get in many restaurants.

First of all, if you choose not to put salt and pepper on your tables, you better make sure the food is tasty. Not the case here at all. We didn't care for anything about this place. The room is too big, impersonal, cold, very cold and the waitresses are not very friendly. The calamari was tasteless, the beets in the goat cheese salad were cut so small you couldn't even grab them with your fork. The steak was awful, overdone, very tough and chewy. The "blackened" haddock was whiter than sour cream and way overdone!! My second glass of wine was way shorter than my first one. When I pointed this out to the server, she said that the first one I got was an over poor...What??? Instead of getting me an once or two from the bar, she just left it.. Not worth your time. Would never go back. Flavor downtown is, by far, a much better place.
