Dovetail - Sydney

Went yo get some stuff from coles and the kids wanted something to eat so we popped in. The classic burger was great the patty full of glavour and the onions a really nice touch. Fish and chips were solid and the lasagne well worth it. Good value and solid food

Came across this cafe on our first day in Sydney while in the area for some shopping needs. We placed our first order, paid, and found a seat. About 15 minutes or so later, someone came to the table empty-handed explaining they were now out of what we had ordered (it was around 5:30pm).We placed a second order and adjusted the bill down a couple of bucks (would have been happy if they just tossed in one free dessert). We asked several times if they would re-fill the self-serve water - never happened. The place wasn't very busy.Another 30 minutes went by and we still had not received our meal...I noticed the cook wasn't "cooking" and we were about the only ones there. Upon checking, it seemed they had LOST our second order? Another 10 minutes went by and our order was delivered...still no water. Nothing exceptional - standard. My husband mentioned to the gal that the "cheesecake sure looked good, perhaps we could share a slice on the house after awaiting over an hour for our meal?" You'd think he'd asked for the moon - he was told he could buy a slice for $5.

My brother and I had dinner here on the first night of our stay in Sydney. I chose Dovetail as its name caught my attention and the interior of the restaurant was modern and quirky.From the time we ordered, to when our meals were brought out was minimal. The meals were good value for money and very tasty. We each enjoyed our respective Dovetail Vegetarian Linguine and Chicken Mushroom Risotto immensely. Located in the World Square Shopping Centre, it is central and easily accessible from a number of accommodation venues in the CBD.

As the saying goes "been to this restaurant twice, first and last time"Attended for a mid morning late breakfast.The quality of food was very basic, and the coffee was worse.I am not sure what left me with the very bitter taste in my mouth; the eggs benedict or the coffee.Whilst talking about the coffee, I am sure this coffee served was the worst I have ever tasted, and that takes some doing. I have a feeling the coffee beans had been badly burnt, either during roasting or by the "barrister" making the coffee.Back to the meal, I think I may go to the local McDonalds for breakfast if I am going to have to spend that much for a meal that is of lessor quality. Maybe this restaurant is just relying on high turnover and stuff the quality, I guess that is their business plan, so be it, but they can now do it without my return visits.
