Chimney Thai Bistro - Sydney

Located above a pub, Chimey Thai Bistro has a small kitchen with a bar in the corner. I ordered the Penang Curry with Beef and rice. A poor impression was set early when I watched them microwave the rice and another part of the ingredients. It showed. The rice was clumped together in the centre although it was cooked through okay. The red curry sauce was unexpectedly hot without warning. The flavour was otherwise fine but far from impressive. There was hardy any beef. The curry included fresh carrots and broccoli, the highlight of the meal by far, although the latter was haphazard, with some leaves attached suggesting sloppy chopping. Parts of the zucchini were not fresh and therefore inedible. The result was uneven; an average meal to satiate hunger but one does not beckon my return. The meal cost $16.

More than Pub Food. The majority of the six of us had the Geng Pad Duck, with the Chinese-inspired roast duck pieces served in a red curry and accompanied by steamed rice. Our orders were delivered quickly despite being a rush hour. The location reminded me of a back packer hostel some where in a bustling city in Southeast Asia, with steep wooden stairs leading to a roof top drinking space and past a few levels of sofas and small meal tables. The menu here offered a choice of Western fashioned meals and Thai dishes that reminded me of my trips to beaches in Thailand. I had frequented for the chili hottest version of the Geng Ped, the lady kindly reaffirmed it and I enjoyed the extra kick in m y meal! Thanks Euan, Anthony and Andre for the drinks.

Sometimes I literally feel like I live under a rock, there are so many beautiful, delicious restaurants all around me and I'm finally seeing all of them.

Lucked out with some good weather this week and sat outside near the water.
