Hakataya Ramen Surfers Paradise

I always make sure to drop by Hatakaya whenever I’m in Gold Coast. Their ramen is super authentic and extremely tasty even after so many years. Not to mention, the portion is big for the price you pay for. Also, they give free extra noodle! That’s service right there. For the same price we pay at franchise ramen shops, we can only get half the portion and the taste can’t even compare to Hatakaya Ramen. The only bad thing I can say about Hatakaya is, they refuse to open new shops outside of QLD

This is likely the worst ramen I've ever paid for. Honestly, I can make a better version myself in about 20 minutes. To address the owner's inquiry (I’m not sure how else to respond), the broth was lacking. It had no depth or richness—more like a chicken stock cube diluted in water. The chashu was simply thinly sliced pork (not even sure if it was belly) and didn't meet Japanese standards for marination or cooking. There was no soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, or bean sprouts. The noodles tasted like they came from a packet of instant noodles. All the ramen you serve feels like an upscale version of instant noodle soup, just a handful of spring onions, a bit of pork, and instant noodles in hot chicken broth… and you charge $14 for it. Additionally, your staff didn't even know what tsukemen was, which reflects poorly on their knowledge of Japanese ramen. This is a disappointing effort—please strive to improve.

It's always one of my favorite spots. I love that they offer free extra noodles to keep me full. Unfortunately, they aren't able to open as frequently as they used to.

Very authentic, simple menu, delicious and free noodles. The Charsiu Ramen is a fav from the menu.

Found this little gem after we were underwhelmed by the menu of our initial planned eatery. Ordered 3x ramen extra noodles (which is complimentary). Mr 8 finished everything in his bowl, something that's unheard of outside of his typical staple of Maccas Cheeseburger and fries. No-nonsense food, reasonable pricing, delicious fare. Leaving this review to remind us of it next time we travel to Surfers
