Hanamaru - Sunnyvale

I tried Hanamaru because it was a bit more affordable than the sushi place I usually get take out from (Satsuma). But I won’t be trying it again. The sushi was really low quality and just not very good. We actually ended up throwing some of it out which I have never had to do for sushi….Food: 3/5

The shio saba was grilled very well. It almost tasted like it was grilled by charcoal. Salad was also decent. I'd say this place make food with a level of care that I did not expect.

My mom and I love to order take out here. The food is well prepared and the staff are very friendly. My absolute favorite thing is the vegetable tempura, perfectly cooked winter squash, sweet potato, zucchini and broccoli, with a delicious tempura batter. The only complaint that I have is that on the kani salad sushi, which my mother always orders, the nori is always soft. Maybe because it is pre made? I think it would be better to have it pre made but not wrapped and then wrap it at the last minute. Nevertheless, my mom likes it enough that she orders that exact dish at least once a month... and everything else is fantastic

2, 3 item bento box (chicken teriyaki, cali. Roll, tempura, avacado roll, veggie tempura) with some side dishes. Always great quality with high quantity when we doordash food from here. Never disappoints and haven't had any issues!

An alright local sushi spot. I ordered online and picked up, it was pretty quick and the food was packaged well.The reason I'm giving two stars is because the restaurant itself smells really bad. I have no idea why or how a restaurant would smell so terrible, but it completely ruined my impression of the place the food was fine but I won't be going back. Also the restaurant is completely takeout only I was a bit surprised because I expected to walk into an actual restaurant but it's just a huge empty room that smells terrible where the employees barely acknowledge you. The next time I want sushi I'll be looking elsewhere.
